Accidental is if the balls goes in to you if you catch the ball it is not accidental.

Even the player that caught the ball knew it was offside, you could see by his reaction. How this ref is still allowed to officiate is beyond me.I backed the All Blacks so a bit sour :( ,perhaps Hollywood will refund my bet as per the objection rule they have :cheer: ,

All said and done was an absorbing series to watch.

To all you rugby boffins out there who are familiar with the Laws/Rules, did the ref make the correct decision by reversing the penalty decision to a scrum?
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

My understanding of the rules, is that a player can only be" accidently offside" if inadvertently the ball makes contact with him(passed, knocked or kicked into him by another player whilst in an offside position)).In this case he made an attempt to catch the ball from an offside position(therefore the contact with the ball was his own doing) ,you could see from the player's reaction that he knew he had transgressed and a penalty would result. As one analyst said" would the ref had made the same decision if it was the first minute of the game" I think the ref copped out as it was too a big call to make with the outcome of the series ridding on his decision.

Lions tour: Jonathan Kaplan questions 'ludicrous' referee call in All Blacks v Lions series decider

"This is something I cannot understand and seems completely wrong - it appears ludicrous to change your decision after agreeing it with the TMO," he added.

"I would, though, say I have huge sympathy with Romain as this was a high-pressure, volatile situation, and it may be his command of English was not the best at this time.

"He was, though, technically wrong to use the TMO to check for offside - although he may have done so in the best interests of the game, which I have no issue with. But what many people, even those outside of New Zealand, will not understand is how he came to reverse that decision."
