rob,
In my view, there is nothing much to celebrate (and I am assuming you are refering to the 'journalist award' issue):
1. Was there a mistake made - yes; the parties involved should have been informed prior to the awards evening
2. Should a public apology have been issued - I think most would say 'yes'
But;
Is this a real big issue - not in my view; if a 'journalist award' is needed (and most folks seem to think that an award of some sort is in order), some of the relating issues that should be debated are:
1. Should it form part of the EQUUS Awards
2. Should it be sponsored by an 'outside' company, or
3. Should it be sponsored by the Operators, or
4. Should it be sponsored by the RA or Racing South Africa
Nowhere yet have I read that these 'ground rules' have been established, and until these have been put in place, controversy will always be likely, and thus we have nothing to celebrate - just my opinion

All have something to say BUT i guarentee you that you can take 1.01 that if certain surnames employed in our sport had relations that were journo's then this award would be worth R1 million a year and we would now be fighting about why it was that so and so's cousin/brother won it.
SA racing is corrupt and very top heavy.

Frodo,the award itself not so important as the confirmation of the handling.I think it would just be great to be able to trust those in control(sic)
I wonder if we can,for example,ever expect to hear the truth behind the strange tote dividends? Do we trust that any manipulation would be published.
I'm not sure that standing together would solve the problem but "mass action" does work better than fighting in the ranks.

"You see Youngstar and anyone who cares to read this, for me racing is not about ego stroking. It is not about what I can get out of anybody. I have noticed that this game is very much about expectations and the perception of what someone can do for you. Often in my brief travels into racing circles, I sense that people think I want something from them. I don’t. I want to enjoy the game and spend the money I work hard for on entertaining myself in this “Sport of Kings”. I want to share my enjoyment and love for the game with like minded people. Ego’s mean nothing to me and no I don’t want anything from anyone."
A few years ago I stumbled on Freeracer .... i was so excited.... like minded people, racing racing and more racing debate, discussion etc. that is why I signed up for these forums... racing. Nothing else. What for me is so sad is that there is so much negativity and mud slinging, petty arguments and competition in the industry with no action. It's like if i have someone to blame/accuse... it's okay. Not what do we do? How can we do? . Alcaponee, you have expressed exactly what I believe far better than I can say it.... but that too is how I feel about MY sport of kings. I am damn sure that Charl , Dave, Steve ... all have the same outcomes and goals for racing in mind but all pull in different directions, or allow ego to intervene ... In that way nothing constructive ever happens... and the ones in power are happy... {deep sigh}... Why am I writing this ?? My family await their dinner ...

Nothing wrong with the horses its the people in the game
