Is the difference between our top trainers and the not so top perhaps the soundness and fitness of the runners? Thank you rob faux.Right on the money. If we take soundness, almost all race horses have problems of some degree and mostly with joints, knees and hocks and if these are not looked after correctly goodbye any sort of consistent form.I have seen many a potentially good racehorse badly managed by some people who call themselves trainers, some absolutely no idea what it takes to keep a horse sound.Ithink these days with standards so low a trainers licence could be purchased at the local greengrocer.JUST JOKING of course we have some great trainers in our country that rate with the best in the world.
Getting a horse really fit.Mike de Kock a really good trainer with a great team, likes to generally work his horses long and hard and also works some twice in a morning, also uses a treadmill and swims a few, treats and trains every horse according to its individual needs, thinks out of the box and is ahead of his time.Horses race fit.T Millard was another trainer who was hard on his horses and he got his horses super fit and the results showed and there are many more trainers like these. The late Buddy Maroun who was well known for training sprinters had a different method as he kept his horses fit by racing often but being soft between runs and trained some great horses and kept them sound.
Sound fit and happy horses win races with class thrown into the mix.
HAPPY PUNTING
