there are no excuses ...considering that there are never more than about12 first timers running at most meetings and our fields are declared 5 days before why cant a simple phonecall or sms be sent to the relevant trainers?amazing we want turnover to increase so stakes can be increased but fcuk the punter lets treat him like a mushroom feed him shit and keep him in the dark...its time for a change of attitude from tellycrap regarding keeping punters informed especially in gauteng as the likes of lafferty and neil pretorious make a concerted effort...really who is interested in cohens comments ,he has been in the game 5 minutes and he thinks he is jehan malherbe already...the mediocrity continues

Lol, mate I was honestly joking about a job, I am perfectly fine where I am.
Was purely adding me 2cents worth to the thread.

With regards to my spelling and grammer, you can give me some lessons if I am that bad. Posting at 12:20am using my BB I am sure to make some errors..

I'm sure it's spelt definitely and not definiately, Barry
;) we all make mistakes

i think pirates is correct, Jimmy makes excuses and probably states facts about the technical side of things BUT what is preventing him (and others) from being TRUE racing scribes? DOING the homework BEFORE arriving on course?

I personally know its a tough game but if you prepare BEFORE you go live its much much easier.

That's a very unfair, personal comment about Alistair Cohen, Pirates, and you know it. When has he ever given you the impression that he thinks he's better than he is, or that he's up with Jehan Malherbe? He's actually an extremely humble, decent, down to earth young man, who's doing a very good job, imo. But let's not get into a personal, mud-slinging argument. Your point is taken and I have put across my view of the problems we face in bringing you the info required. I will do my best to improve the situation, over the next couple of weeks, when I'll be doing more Vaal presenting, even though there are just so many hours in a day. Contrary to what some contributors to this Forum believe, I think I have a good relationship with most trainers and I don't believe that any one of them has shied away from an interview with me, or would refuse to divulge information.

As regards the disparaging comments from cliftonking and sharesumfun, I know I may not be the type of presenter that you like, with my "Maritzburgh" accent but I have served my dues and can read a formline at a glance. I've been passionate about racing since I was seven years old and I've been presenting on TV, in many different capacities, for over 30 years. With racing, it started at Greyville, with their on-course TV presentations, as understudy to the late Ron Phillips, in the early 1990's. And I once wrote a film script on handicapping and the merit racing system for the Jockey Club, so don't give me that one. I can't help it if my tones are soporific, but I do my best to be bright and breezy on air.

Shaheen Shaw once told me to ignore most of the comments on this Forum, or I'd drive myself mad, but I do take my work seriously and unfair, personal attacks can be dispiriting. So if we can try to be more constructive and less personal, guys, it would be appreciated.

Txs for your reply Barry from where you sit and from your point of view your answer is fair. As for commenting on our presenters im not going to pass comment other than to say that on the odd occasion that Julie has done a preview on any of her brothers horses backed or not she has always been forthright and honest regarding their ability and readiness. Her enthusiasm and honesty might well have been what cost her her job at tellytrack the first time around. Maybe you should employ her.Im with Pirates on this one time to get out of the dark ages and let the punters know whats going on.This does not mean owners cannot get the info first and have a punt should they so wish.

Whenever I do present I make the effort of trying to get respective comments regarding 1st timers, as I know viewers appreciate them plus transparency is good for the game.

However now i'd like to pose a question to you. As a professional punter are you saying that a trainer telling the presenter "nice horse and expecting a decent run" holds more water than the market does?
