hibs
rubbish...
IN the UK this would NOT work BUT in SA there is still a chance....BAN all bookmakers.
Lets say that there are 100 bookies in SA each holding R5000 per race in CASH. That money would now be in the tote. That is now an extra R500k in the win market. You can do the math yourself if they each holding R10000 per race. Once that happens it will be like Hong Kong/Breeders Cup/Lonchamps in October, you can get as much as you can PAY FOR in cash on the tote and you will pretty much receive the odds required.
The side affect of this radical theory is that stakes would increase, trainers fees would increase and the WHOLE horseracing eco system would be far far far healthier.
If the SA tote was holding R1000000 per race and then an extra 4 mil per day on he exotics it would be POWERFUL.
Lets do a quick poll on here ill start a new thread for this.

Stop talking shite,it`s a generation game.Punters are of a certain age go into any bookies in south africa and play a game of spot the youngsters. They are not going to increas pools and generate new custom just because we are forced to to use the tote. And do you think the competition commission would be happy about this ?

Titch I'm sure there are a few dumps out there but my point is that places like Hollywood (at least the ones I've been to) have facilities which offer more than just a ticket?? (Yes I understand they want you to stay there and loose more money just like the casino's)....

i beg your pardon, talking site??
You fool do you honestly think that French racing has the same problems that a country with bookmakers has? or Hong Kong?
EVERY day on this site and others contributors give input about a host of issues with SA racing, stakes and quality of races is one of them. A complete tote system would increase stakes 3 fold instatnly

GB using Hollywood as a example is a bit unfair they have without exception the best outlets in the country...just as Club Tab next to Greyville racecourse would hold its own anywhere in the country as a model Tote outlet

I am 100% with Hotline and 2oceans on this one taking an open bet is shooting yourself in the foot especially if you are an owner if the bookmakers want to offer the open bet and take millions of rands worth of bets away from the tote then why dont they revisit their tax contribution and equal that of the tote and stop biting the hand that in fact feeds them??

Hotline I understand what you saying, you have invested HUGE amounts into the game, but can't you see there are more negative comments about the tote operator by PUNTERS on this site than positive... It's all about offering the punter a service, something which is non existent with Phumelela (See above posts, Scotia, myself and Keniza).... I have not used my tote account for 4 months now and will continue to do so until they treat me like a CUSTOMER.
