Princess Victoria got first run and EF is prob better suited to a longer run in.
Great to have such 2 superstar fillies!

first time at a right hand track plus lights beat ef...bernard was at her the whole time in the race in fact at one stage i thought she wouldnt run a place....a race of this magnitude should be run during the day at least...would love a rematch between the 2

I think you are correct. Greyville gives the tactician, lesser horses a chance if they use conditions to their advantage...

Bernard was pushing, shaking up Ebony before the bend to stay in touch---- by the bend princess had a length or 2 in front & it was race over..not Ebony's true run........... can we fault bernard or not ?
all in all a day bernard would like to forget me thinks.

Princess Victoria was a worthy winner. She won because she is a handier horse than Ebony Flyer and her rider rode a superb race.
Ebony Flyer lost because of a combination of reasons.
In the end, she couldn't make up the deficit.
Our filly apparently wasn't comfortable on the track. I think she is too big and unsuited by the course.
When Anton Marcus sliced inside, it was race over.
I don't think Ebony Flyer lost anything in defeat.
Two very good fillies.
But this was "horses for courses."
Key to the race is Happy Archer, who on any other course cannot warm up the top pair, but on this course she is only a length and a half out of the winning photo.

Many horses (and Trainers) are not fans of night racing but we have to do it. As Barry said two TOP fillies but one handled the lights and course better. Love to see a rematch. Was going to say the reason EF got beaten was because she was trained at Clairwood and not at Summerveld under lights on a right hand turn but won't!

Anton rode a perfect race, and Princess was superbly turned out by Glen and Fikkie.
Greyville is a tricky course, and exacerbated by the wind and the race being under lights. Neither filly had raced under lights before. PV had run once before around a right hand bend when she won the Slipper at this course. EF had once won at Arlington, but not run at Greyville.
Anton did not go handy early-in fact was 7 lengths back after 200m with Bernard alongside as the front runners went off quickly. They slowed a little approaching the bend, and Anton closed to within 4 lengths, with EF slightly behind him. Crucially, Anton found the rails run.
Coming off the false rail, Anton made the winning move. This was facilitated by Princess' key strength- the ability to quicken off a high cruising speed in the middle of a race, and then maintain the gallop to the line.
The race was won quite a long way out, and although Ebony was closing steadily to get within half a length, I believe that Princess had more in the tank had the challenge come earlier.
Two super fillies, and a pity that Princess had a slight hiccup in her prep for the Majorca, and we were denied a match over the Kenilworth mile, in my view the fairest course in the country.
