Only question I have is WHY NOW? Just cos Gavin got to close and almost snatch it out of Marcus hands without having to ride 500 horses more...

Why now?Long overdue....what don't you get with it being a SOUTH AFRICAN JOCKEYS title.....not an AFRICAN JOCKEYS title.....

I am not one of those in the Know and you certainly are since you can speak on the record. Imvho if it hadn't been for the 250k it wouldn't have mattered whether the title had been decicided with the Zim rides included as it hadn't mattered when Robetrs had won his.

...next u want Ngong included ?Or let's

Yes Fortune Won it riding all over the country and still there were some who said he didn't deserve it as most of his wins had come in Kim. Fact is we can debate this 4eva, it won't change a thing as the powers that be have decided and thats it. END TOPIC

I also agree it should be SA rides only
Gavin really tried hard last season and it was tough to lose like that
I just wish him the best of luck this time
Hopefully Andrew comes back hungry and join the chase

Limiting the jocks with lesser opportunities in SA will only have one result and that is to make the Log an elitist race with only a chosen few having any sort of chance of winning it,

Andrew did ride in Zim when he won his title, the only difference is that his wins there were not what won him the title

Looks like Gavin might have to travel to Flamingo and Cape Town more often if he wants to challenge this year. Good luck to him......i'm sure it takes a lot out of jocks travelling so much.

Michael Roberts did more miles than the space shuttle when he won the British title. With a R250k incentive those talented enough should find good agents and start now.

Titch, if Lerena or any other jockey wants to win the Championship then why is he not riding today at Flamingo Park or PE on Friday ?

For my 2 Cents...

Every year it has been the SOUTHERN African jockeys championship and Zim was included. Fairplay to Lerena, Fortune, Davids and even Khan, to break 300 wins, for using the system to their advantage.

BUT, I do believe it should only be based on SA mounts as those chasing the title in Zim take rides away from some very good horseman up there who would have Zim Champion in their CV if it were not for outsiders coming in.

I believe that Lance Pagel will be going back to Zim this year to achieve that after a good % of winners this year and a confidence boost.

Counting wins in Zim is like counting my wins in Qatar + Bahrain towards Dubai totals, would have put me in Top 5 as very few Dubai jocks travelled outside.

Macau doesn't count towards HK
Ireland doesn't count towards UK
Malaysia doesn't count towards Singapore
Canada doesn't count towards USA etc
And most of those flights are less than the 2hrs from Jhb to Harare.

To be the best, you have to Beat the best on level terms...
Isn't that the point of WFA racing aswell?
