Rules for punting and how to man up

Punters try and create rules they should stick to in order to ensure a profit. The reason why punters try and create these rules is because they are getting a hiding in the long term, and the occasional good days keep them coming back.
They realise they are spending a large percentage of their lives studying form and following racing, and hope springs eternal.
There is a hell of a lot of living to be lived. Don't be one of those fools/losers that sit stuck in the racing rut.

One sure fire way to break the habit is to take the acid test. Take bets that will really hurt you if you lose. Punt an amount that will make you feel the pain. Then decide if you want the pain and want to be a loser.... The problem with punters is they play so many bets that the reality that they actually losing is not there. The few wins anethitizes the pain of the plenty losses.

So man up. Take those big bets. Get your $&@ kicked. Then get the hell out of there.... Spend time living a bit...
Chuckle... Reminds me of a guy I met in a betting shop once... He asked me an interesting question... 'so what happened in your life that you find yourself here?' ...
Perhaps your family/dog/charity/wife is not worth spending time with?

I think by playing few big bets you save time reading/listening to all the crap form that means nothing most of the time... And you don't spend your life in front of the tv or at betting shops or race courses.

There is a sucker born every minute, the industry wont die without you, the Durban July can be your yearly fix.

Article from secret systems
Are you a 'mug punter' or an investor in the gambling industry? An important question to ask yourself right now. The below may help you focus on a successful future within the gambling industry.

Mug Punters

Too many gamblers spend hours each day 'punting' on events with little or no thought about why they have selected to back a particular outcome. They are often trying to recover the losses from an earlier bet and have entered 'panic mode'. They usually have no sensible staking plan in operation and use random stakes depending upon how good a feeling they have about a particular outcome. They are very often wrong!

Their selections are made on weak criteria like 'gut feeling' or by picking the next low priced favourite which is 'surely going to win'. Sadly, these types of gamblers usually end up lining the bookmakers pockets with loads of cash and often end up in financial ruin with an empty betting bank!

Gambling Investor

The majority of successful gamblers are also investors. They only 'invest' in selections that offer true value and when combined with a good staking plan will give a healthy return over time. They may only place 1 or 2 bets per day. On some days, there may not be a suitable value bet to place and on such days, successful gambling investors will NOT be tempted into placing bets.

A very key point is that most successful gamblers make their profits over time and only the lucky few strike it rich overnight. Investors in gambling don't worry about the size of their betting banks at the end of each day, week or even month. They know that they are investing over a longer term like 3, 6 or more commonly 12 months. They don't worry if by month 2 their betting bank is lower than when they started out as their sensible selection process and staking plan will see them in good profit long term.

Recommendation

We strongly recommend that all gamblers ensure that they are in full control of their betting bank and adopt a safe, reliable and flexible staking plan. A good staking plan can make the difference between good profits and terrible loses. Very Important: Only ever gamble with money you can afford to lose!

It is not advisable to 'break the rules' of your staking plan at any time, even if you have what you believe is a 'sure bet', as it is there to protect your money and ensure you are in control. So often gamblers fail to make regular profits simply because they are adjusting their stakes randomly and sods law says that when you are putting down larger amounts than your staking plan recommends, the selection(s) will lose !

Whether you have your own system for picking selections or use a tipping service, using a safe and reliable staking plan is key to your success. Once again, we strongly recommend that your betting bank is only made up of money you can afford to lose

their is one rule and no need for all this rules and morbid stuff. the rule is pay all your bills first and punt only what you can afford to lose. this rubbish about feel pain what is this non sense. we punt because we enjoy the bet, not because we want to feel pain

Very good point... Stuff the rest... You enjoy the bet. The rush, the kick, the thrill ... With money that you can afford to lose.
I just prefer being a winner. But suppose there have to be losers ..

Can you realy make a living out of racing or any other sports bet?
And if so is it the strategy or depends or your habits or planning as such.
Wish I could have one single bet a day and quit and back again the next day and so on.
Are we now listening to experience in being successful or the loosing strike rates.
Anyone with a real solution.
Read once on th forum bout a 10% return daily.
Lets hear and thanks.

There are many successsful formuals. I was on about a return of 30% per month, but with my pockets notbeing deep enought he actual cash reward of this strategy was no good.

A simple way is the double down method. For example you start your 1st bet with R10. You have to find a bet of 15-10 or better. If you win the 1st bet you finished for the day. If you lose your 2nd bet is R20. Again if you lose the next bet is R40 and so on. The method works in horse racing as it is not often you will get more than 5 races worng in a row.Therfore the most you will lay out on a single bet is R160. I paper traded this method for 4 months and it works. The problem as i say is what you can afford to start with as you may make 30% ROI however your investment for the month can sometimes be R400 only, therefore only returning R120.

I have a sports betting formula that i use very successfully as well. Before i got into the ponies i made most of my "spending" money on football betting. Again it is a very simple theory. I started with a R100 bet. I look for the best even money value bet for that week. The best place to find these bets for me was either in football or golf. I would place 1 bet a week. The 1st bet being R100. If i lose, i bet R100 the following week. If i win, i bet R200 that week. If i lose i go back to betting R100 the follwoign week, if i win i bet my winnigs of R400. I do this until i get to R800 (its normally a bit more becasue of 11/10, 12/10 etc odds) and then i withdraw. The problem being is the patience to find the bet each week.
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!

Best rule is to play like a mouse. Like it is entertainment. Even the racing pro's I know spend more time "out" than "in" so what chance do the guys like us have ?
