Tipster you are 100 percent correct if the white flag goes up behind the stalls and the starter then sees something wrong he should call a false start which he did . There was nothing wrong with this call it was correct. In any event the hose that won could and would still have won Irrespective of what happened . Just my opinion.

White flag up is go. Looking again it looks like the back gates were either not closed properly and he reversed out or they were released by the handlers after the flag went up.

No doubt the correct procedures were followed by the main starter. He saw the white flag, he pressed the button, he realized what had happened and called a false start. Imagine had he been 2 seconds late and the field had run without VC?????
I think the assistant starter behind the pens made a mistake, which can happen to anyone. It was just a pity it had to happen on one of CTN's biggest race days.
Anyway he won, he is a champ and no he isn't the best miler in the world, but he should be competitive, no doubt about that!!

Some clarification about my comment.
Starter made the the correct call to declare a false start., and yes the the white flag was up with VC, not properly locked in. An enquiry should be made and a transparent explanation be given for this, with necessary action taken.
The camera focused in on VC been loaded last, and the gates not closed.
Now let us take the blinkers off(not the kind used for horses).
Variety Club had to overcome a bad draw, which in all fairness would probably have made it extremely difficult to win the race.
Every other horse broke out of the stalls on normal terms, using up their energy, reserved for this much flouted race to get, by their jocks to a well placed position,
THE ONLY HORSE THAT DID NOT USE UP ANY ENERGY WAS variety club.
So a false start played out perfectly for VC to get to the front, after the other runners tired themselves from the break, allowing VC to get to the front, with the rest doing the chasing.
Hence, my choice of the word, orchestrated?
On a positive note. Watch, POMODORO in the next feature.

Do you have a dog observer? Try to teach your dog to reverse on command. Now do you think a colt like VC that obviously does not like the stalls could be taught to reverse on command? There was nothing sinister about that start except for the human error and the unpredictability of the horse. I am a Jackson and Pomodoro fan and VC beat them fair and square (i really don't think the false start did them in -) Do you honestly believe that MJ Anton Ramsden, the starters etc could all have got together to orchestrate something so bizarre as a false start just to give their champion an "unfair advantage."

Well said Mr H..Im sure when the "red mist" settles, observer will see how frivolous his post was...

Observer - do you have any PROOF of this? If so then NHRA is your option.

To both Mr Hawaii, and Titch, it is not about the horse been put in reverse, it is about the gates not been closed properly, and the idiot that raised the flag, giving the go ahead to the starter.
Are you guys wannabe legal eagles, by shifting the emphasis.

really please show the proof of this - You seem to know a great deal about that start so I'm sure the NHRA would love to see the proof -

Observer you insinuated that is was done by design which is a load of BS and to quote you: Hence, my choice of the word, orchestrated...as for shifting emphasis the words "practise what you preach" springs to mind...
