Such a shame. Here is somebody who had the world at his feet but his friends thought it was more important to go out and get pissed everyday which ultimately shortened his playing career. I wonder where those friends are today? Its a lack of forethought and just living for the day. It seems that he is crying out for help but nobody is listening as we all think that he is beyond "repair". Somebody, who he trusts, needs to take a hold of him and care for him otherwise as you say Greg he will be dead within a year.

No one is beyond repair, you just need to know that its a life of sobriety you choose and not just a 6 week course at a rehab centre... There is no cure for this disease he needs to get to the AA and find a sponsor who WILL guide and motivate him during the life of sobriety.

I've met him a couple of times and since he's football days were over he has no aim in life.
He is a sad sight, such a great player but flawed mentally

The video at that charity event was an absolute shocker. How could his agent let him continue like that? It's such a shame, he's an absolute hero of mine. I've got a dvd called Waiting for Gascoigne and he really is a moon man but watching that clip was rough

Visited UK and saw him play as a 16 year old at St James Park vs Man U on Easter Saturday 1987. I had not heard of him until that day. Huge talent and huge personality. No tv here or internet. Told everyone here about him. It felt like I had discovered him. Big hero to me. We won 2-1(Goddard and Roeder)

Bit stupid leaving a vulnerable alcoholic in a bar, kinda like leaving a kid in a candy shop...
