summerveld morning gallops

I am hoping someone can help me. I have heard you can go through to summerveld stables to watch the morning gallops and have a decent brekkie. I've tried to go twice and both times no horses and the resturant is closed. Anybody who is in the know please can you let me know what mornings this takes places and times.

Richie77, the clubhouse is open from 6-930, from Monday to Saturday. Certain days are better than others to see horses working fast( Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays are quiet ). Call me on 0826595552 and you can come around to the yard as well if you would like to.

For those in jhb, would turfies be the best place to go just catch a chill and watch the gallops as well... I know its business for those involved there but you think theyll mind if those interested come and have a squizz??? Its not a point of going there to ask tons of questions and irritate people but to learn more about the sport and gain a better understanding for the game.... This is the know can youll plz advise.... Shweeet

You can go to turfontein any day of the weekhave breakfast in the furious room 50 rand for a buffet breakfast and watch horses work. Ask to speak to Scott or William they will look after you.

Cheers Craig, i will defintiely take you up on your offer. I want to bring my brotehr in law as he has a very keen interest in horses so just need to see when he is available. I know he is off to Cape Town this week, but will confirm.

Monday's and Thursday's are best for grass gallops, Saturday is always busy

JHB would be Randjies for me, not sure which days are best though, Saturday always a safe bet.

I understand that area is a resendential estate and they dont just allow people to enter willy nilly... How is it possible then to get into there and have a look... Is there somebody that needs to contacted? But it does sound like Turffies is the best bet with a mere R50 for a breakie...

@russeldewee - The Randjiesfontein training centre is not situated IN Randjiesfontein Estate - there is also a restaurant called The Clubhouse, that serves a decent breakfast (although the service is very slow) - one can sit outside and watch the horses gallop - if you are interested, Elvis and myself go there abt once every 2/3 months - PM one of us if you would like to join us next time.

That's nice to know re the gallops at Summerveld. I live in Gillitts and might just pop along to see them. Don't worry Craig, won't be pestering you...
