I would hope that only horses that have shown form or have run in the last three months should get preference -

Johnny that just looks like the MR highest to lowest not the July Log.
Once again off a 101 I really like Jet Explorer, hopefully he draws well.

It's going to be a difficult (and thankless) task choosing the final field - too many horses that look like they belong, so for sure there will be some disappointments.
Imo, the 3 yr olds are rated too high - for Rock Cocktail to be 105, means that he has improved 4 lengths in 2 weeks from the 1900 to the DN; so I would say that none of the 3yr olds offer any value at this stage - with the possible exception of Cherry on the Top - if she was indeed using the Woolavington as a prep, then 10/1 not bad value imo, and Yorker - had no chance from the draw in the DN and if he is still being considered good enough by the stable to have him in the July, I think 20/1 not bad.
The leading (betting wise) older horses at this stage are Pomodoro, Jet Explorer, Run For It and Hill Fifty Four and all 4 currently offer better value than the 3yr olds imo - although the early value about Pomodoro (16/1) and Run For It (66/1) are gone. For me at this stage, the best value on offer lies with Hill Fifty Four at 20/1 - high on the log, certain to run, only a slight doubt about the trip.
So imo if you want to back a 3yr old, wait till after the Gold Challenge, after which the leading 4 yr olds should shorten (if they run well) - if you want to back an older horse, now is the time :S

in a short while the july field will be reduced to 16 runners or maybe less with the new inner track being built that should be fun picking it...

Sorry Blou,I haven't a clue and I am no July expert ...............I have probably had 5 serious bets in 40 years racing.
I enjoy all the intrigue and build up but as for punting its just another MR handicap!!
I have an nibble each year so I have something to shout for in front of the TV.
