i heard from an informed source that the stipes phoned 3 jockeys in a particular race to say that due to "irregular" betting patterns...their race riding will be closely monitored...is this normal?...but more to the point whts the purpose of making such a phone call...was a cape town race this week

If correct...I'm all for it...if they were involved, they know that they are being watched...if they are not involved, then they know that things are being monitored...(tu)

thats why i asked the question.."whats the point"....because whatever they were looking for..if it materialised....what could they do

mister a i no say he were the saint i am sure he have hes skeleton in the closet BUT let me give you garentee not one jockey will try get clever when he is around. it is the disgrace how little is do these day when the jockey ride like the no good. louis all ready give the example of one problem. many more even the blind can see yet nothing is being done. to me the stipe today is the adjudicator no the enforcer. these is the problem they no want to get hand dirty. is the big problem

The best stipe was Jock Sproule in KZN.His only flaw was his favorite jockey ,Muis Roberts.I think that the stipes in this country have gone backwards.Firstly they should be above all other personal in racing, should be divorced from mixing with stewards, owners and trainers to maintain their integrity. In the past we have had many stipes who clearly didnt know their jobs.Ex jockeys with the highest integrity would be fine and ex trainers who were jockeys say like Colin Lee but some ex jockeys come with baggage.Stipes should be moved around from area to area and the best thing to do would be to import from the UK or Australia some of their best for a locum to help train our younger guys. When senior jocks come running back from overseas to ride here there is more to it than just the love of South Africa.Until we get our house in order we will always be deemed crooked.

Here in Mauritius we get regular calls down at the start because of irregular betting patterns and 'rumours' our rides will be closely watched.
