C, B and A Divisions racing

what is the current system meant to produce other than cause trainers to dodge races? (or is it about betting) Why can't racing here revert back to the old division system whereby a horse with true merit filtered to the top and the others dropped out?

what races are being dodged?

As a punter i prefer smaller fields

As an owner i prefer smaller fields

As a race watcher i prefer clean run races

I think it's all about the betting, Don. The MR system favors the weaker horses & those that stay under the radar.

The young horses that show potential are put up so high in the ratings that it gets impossible to bring them down w/out " off the boil" runs etc.(td)

'Divisions' went out when MR was introduced - not an exact science, but very broadly what used to be an 'A' division handicap would nowadays be a MR 100 (or above) handicap, with an 'E' div comparable to about MR 60-65 - the rest more or less falls in between :S

today these horse will run in any thing where he is no eliminated and just become the slow moving traffic barrier. in the old day he run where is qualify and very soon you see he is at end of road even as a 3yo. is the reason in the old day you get rid of the shit where he find hes place no like today where we have 6yo 6 time winner run against 3 yo maiden winner get weight, pirates will come cry but bottom line we cater for the rubbish with these merit rating rubbish

I'm not sure what 'damage' this is causing - what is wrong with a '6 time winning 6yr old gving weight to a 3 yr old maiden' if the 3 yr old is a better horse than the 6 yr old' (extreme example anyway) - in my view there is nothing wrong with the MR system - and the application is getting better as we go along (apart from the occasional boo-boo like the 6 points rise and drop :()

I hope Elvis won't mind if I use his horse as an example - if you guys had your way, Silver Specialist would have been chucked out as 'rubbish' as a 3 yr old - today as a 6 yr old he has earned almost R300,000 in stakes - I fail to see why this is a 'problem' :S
