Almost unbelievable. Multi-billion rand industry, and nothing to bet on. Unless there's a way to back lot 235 thats on sale in a few days for when it runs in 2 years from now.

So this is a what a corporate shooting itself in the foot looks and feels like. Replays...what next, virtual?

I'm sure they will follow up with yet another radio interview where they tell us how clever they are, followed by the sycophants who will praise them.

Terrible situation we are in with SA racing at this time when the punters have so many other options :S
I keep thinking there must be a hidden agenda or they have just got themselves in a no win situation, surely someone at the top has to have a fit unless this direction is coming from the top? The mind boggles

I think Steve Jobs could have been talking about many of the "insiders" of the racing industry(their own term) when he made one of his famous quotes................"some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected"

Making more profit from streams that have low cost outlay...

Local racing has high costs associated with "putting on the show" with resultant low margins...international racing, soccer pools, etc have very high margins...result is that bottom line as percentage of turnover increases the lower local turnover is...in effect they are scaling down the low margin business in favour of the high margin business and that is what is driving the share price up...

I know some big bookies are gonna move on and concentrate on sports betting, virtually disregarding racing, do no point to carry on with the bravado

Hillbrow comes to mind - Those businesses that saw the end was near sold out and set up elsewhere - those that stayed put in defiance ended up with zip. The bookies need to be ENCOURAGED to push the Racing product onto the foreign soccer bettors, many of whom come from Zim which has a culture of racing. Maybe offer a 5 % hike on a pick six comprising three soccer and three horse selections or something along those lines. PGE needs to send out an Olive branch now as the Bookies are helping to keep Racing in the spotlight. Please chaps see the bigger picture as I and many other punters do not play soccer bets and if racing becomes a non-event I stop punting full stop(except for my Rugby bets which are seasonal )

I watched tt replays today , after punting and watching sports, the tt
production and picture looks like a old 1970, s cheap budget movie,
sports in high definition with commentators who are qualified and know
their subject will swallow racing soon
