Time for a break from ABC, these delusions of grandeur could be contagious. Just be reading this I'm starting to hallucinate.

Re: Re: Final fields Sprint day
11 years 4 weeks agoGavin van Zyl has two horses entered in the Gr 1 Tsogo Sun Medallion over 1200m at Scottsville on Saturday, Punk Rocker and Dante’s Legacy, and the former is prominent in the market at 10-1 with Betting World.
His son and assistant trainer Gareth said, “Punk Rocker galloped very well on the grass on Monday, it was definitely the best gallop we’ve seen from him and he has a definite chance.”
Gavin continued, “Punk Rocker has come on from his last run and will love the 1200m. He is doing very well.”
The Trippi colt is unbeaten in two starts over 1000m and 1100m respectively, both at Clairwood, and showed tremendous resolve last time out when seeing off Beckedorf in an epic duel. He gave 2kg to Beckedorf that day and the latter, who is held in good regard by the Dennis Drier yard, then franked the form by winning a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1000m at Clairwood by 4,25 lengths.
Dante’s Legacy, a two-year-old Silvano colt, can’t be written off, considering he surprised the yard when winning comfortably on debut over Saturday’s course and distance.
Gavin said about the 25-1 shot, “We told the owners before his first start that it would probably be a bit on the short side for him, but that a place would be in order. When Stuart Randolph pressed the button he accelerated instantaneously and surprised us by winning going away. He won well and with natural improvement you can add another three lengths to that effort which puts him in with a chance of a top four finish.”
Dante’s Legacy has drawn favourably in five and apprentice Craig Zackey rides, while Punker Rocker has a tough draw of 13 to overcome under Keagan de Melo.

Dennis Drier has won a Gr 1 in each of the last three Scottsville Festival Of Speed meetings and looks to have a chance of adding to that record on Saturday as he has competitive runners in every one of the four big races.
Drier will be going for a hat-trick of Tsogo Sun Medallion wins and has a realistic chance of achieving it as his Seventh Rock colt Guiness was impressive when winning by a comfortable two lengths over 1000m at Clairwood on debut.
He said, “I think he is very progressive and hope he is not still green. I rate him.”
He also has a good regard for his other runner in this race, the A P Answer gelding Beckedorf, although he does look to have a tough task reversing form with the Gavin van Zyl-trained Punk Rocker, who beat him over 1100m in his penultimate start, despite conceding 2kg.
Beckedorf won his subsequent outing in a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1000m by 4,25 lengths and Drier said, “He has also done nothing wrong. The 1200m shouldn’t be a problem. He is very speedy and Scottsville suits speedy horses.”
He concluded, “Both of them should be thereabouts. We will see how good the Johannesburg horses are.”
Guiness has a plum draw of six and Anton Marcus rides for the owner who retains him, Markus Jooste, while Drier stable jockey Sean Cormack will be aboard Beckedorf from a nice draw of eight.
Drier also looks to have a top chance in the Allan Robertson Championship with his Horse Chestnut filly Balkan.
“Wow, she is a good filly. She is doing well and will have no problem with the trip. She is a big runner.”
Balkan has won her last two races over 1000m and 1100m respectively at Clairwood by a combined margin of eleven lengths and jumps from a good draw of nine under Cormack.
Drier won the (City of Pietermaritzburg) S A Fillies Sprint with the brilliant Val De Ra in 2011 and has two chances this year with Schiffer and Jet Aglow.
Schiffer, like Val De Ra, is by Var and was seen as her likely successor as a young horse before a knee chip put her out of action for nearly a year. She has won three of her five comeback runs and her last start in the Gr 1 Computaform Sprint can be ignored as she lost two to three lengths after a problem with her hood.
Drier said, “She is very well.”
The speedster doesn’t have too unfavourable a draw of eleven.
Interestingly, Sean Cormack will be aboard Jet Aglow, who has top class Gr 1 form from 1600-1800m.
Drier said, “She is out of an Argosy mare and I don’t think she goes further than a mile, so this is a nice race for her.”
Jet Aglow has a tough draw of 15 to overcome.
Drier runs the consistent four-year-old Captain Al gelding Barbosa in the Golden Horse Casino Sprint.
He said, “His last two runs have been good runs. He is well and at the weights could be in the money.”
Barbosa won over course and distance as a three-year-old, beating Tevez on worse terms than he faces him on Saturday. On the form of his last two starts he is hard to separate from the Charles Laird pair Contador and Normanz, who are both shorter than him in the betting. Cormack rides from a nice draw of eight.

Duncan Howells said that he would find it difficult to see his Champion Var filly Via Africa getting beaten in the defence of her City Of Pietermaritzburg S A Fillies Sprint Crown at Scottsville on Saturday as she had come on from her last run when runner up in the Gr 1 Computaform Sprint.
The yard will also be contesting the Gr 1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint and the Gr 1 Allan Robertson Championship with Regal Eagle and Miss Argentina respectively.
Howells said about Via Africa, “She is very sound and fit and has the draw. She handles any going too.”
The previously consistent Silvano gelding Regal Eagle has run way below par in his last two starts and will in all probability run with a Cornell collar on Saturday. He was found to have a blood problem after his penultimate start, but after he had run badly again his breathing was monitored at full pace with the use of an over ground exercise laryngoscope and he was found to have a loose piece of skin in the oesophagus that was effecting his breathing.
Howells said, “From his draw all we can hope for is an improved run. If there is no improvement he will have to go for laser treatment.”
Miss Argentina, a Miesque’s Approval filly, is one of only two fillies in the Allan Robertson Championship to have won over Saturday’s course and distance and Howells said, “It is a big step up and the draw is not in her favour, but on what she has done to date I think she could run into the first four.”
Howells’ first call jockey Kevin Shea will ride both Via Africa and Miss Argentina, from draw one and 14 respectively, and Muzi Yeni rides Regal Eagle from the very outside draw of 16 in the Golden Horse.

Any updates on the weather, I believe there was rain predicted this week. If it did arrive was there much and will it affect the going?
