So I as a trainer cannot inject my horse unless I do so illegally then why not put pressure on the VET and have him be the liable one in cases like this - The vet should, as suggested by Neigh, put a hold on horses competing until the withdrawal period. If he has made an error in giving the correct horse an injection then he should surely be sanctioned and not the trainer. If I go to the doctor and get an injection that make me drowsy and the doctor knows that is a COMMON side effect and he does not bother to tell me and I crash my car when driving home I'm certain he would be liable as he has a duty of care towards the patient. Negligent actions from a Vet should not result in a trainer being sanctioned surely?

Maybe if he just got a bit more professional he wouldn't be hit with so many fines ?

With modern technology like

apps
RFID
cloud

the ONLY thing stopping progress in South Africa with regards to certain things is the reluctence of investment / forward thinking into certain problems that frankly could be sorted in LESS than a millisecond.

I suspect though that the main reason a vet does NOT upload/inform anyone of administered medication is because he would in certain cases making a declaration that might not sit so lekker .......

because a simple app linked to the nominations system and each horse with a planted RFID tag and all this goes away from human intervention provided the VET uploads the data.

So INVHO this is a solution and quite cheap....

Vet administers medication.
Logs it in his system (needs to for billing anyway)
System talks to RFID chip in horse by telling it a date
system talks to noms and tells it a date
system can even talk to trainers system and tell it a date
then horse nominated (system accepts declines)
if nomination system fails
horse arrives on course stipes scan horse for last check
chip can be used for other things as well

sectional timing
identification
storing all data pertain to horse (like a cars log book)

BUT that would be too much for Phumelela and / or NHRA
