Oscar with all due respect your original post does not make one conclude "what you are getting at". Your questions are valid and should not finger the HHCU in any way. I suggest you relook at your posts and amend

Hello Oscar,
Bev Seabourne, Managing Director of HHCU here. I believe that you have been given the wrong information on the work we do. I would be very happy to discuss openly any problems or misgivings you may have about HHCU - we have nothing to hide.
I suspect you are referring to a recent complaint from a horse dealer about thoroughbreds in a poor condition that were sold on from Kimberley and got into the wrong hands. The reason that we could not go in immediately (Friday night) was because the courts were closed, and we could not obtain a court order. The SPCA were then called in by the complainant - a horse dealer who falsely advised the owner of the horses that she was a representative of The National Thoroughbred Trust - and they were also not able to enter the property, as they could not obtain a court order. This action alerted the owner of the horses, who hid them on various properties around Johannesburg to try to prevent us from confiscating them. It took us a week to find all 7 of them.
All of the horses concerned were eventually
confiscated by our Inspectors and are now safely at HHCU - once we had obtained a court order. We can't confiscate without one, unless the animals are dying, which in this case they were not.
If you want any information at all on our work, please don't hesitate to contact me. You will hear the truth - you only have to ask. Don't listen to gossip.

Hi Bev as posted we have taken a horse from the HHCU before and had an awesome experience. it saddens me that the words of horse traders are accepted as fact and your good name is slandered on mere heresay. People should get out and visit your establishment, they would be pleasantly surprised and humbled by the excellent work that you do. Shame on them for damaging your reputation. Keep up the good work

Yes correct Bev please believe me I'm not having a go at you guys in any way but that is exactly what I have heard and another case recently up in Jhb which I will tell you about privately.. I was horrified to hear it.. You guys need more funding so you can get to these animals earlier than the SPCA and racing operators need to know about this and come to the party.. Also there are o lot of misunderstandings about passport issues on retired from racing horses which need to be fixed and structures put in to handle it..I will give you a call

This thread helped me understand more about what happens to ex Race horses.
to be honest i guessed some were retired to studs, some go to riding and jumping schools and the rest would be euthanised and made used as glue or other purposes.
well done HHCU

The trainer has been really concerned at what happened to the horses, Bob, we notified him of the problem. He has agreed to try and help us sort out the problem of horses being sold off the track to unsuitable homes in the Kimberley area.
We need to have certain standards put in place before horses are sold out of training - and we are fighting to get it approved by the Industry. It will certainly lessen the problems of unsound horses ending up on plots, with unknowledgeable owners, and becoming a statistic in our monthly reports.
Thanks for all your support - there are some awesome horse owners and trainers out there - we appreciate it.

And the bottom line remains MONEY....
because that's what it's all about.
Firstly, some "horse dealers" - lets look at them - they are in it to make money. To them it's not about the love of the horse and definitely not about the wellbeing of the horse later. It's about a quick buck.
Not so HHCU.
Again, as for the Operators, they do fund the HHCU. But again, MONEY comes to the fore...The point is that when a horse has been sold on by a horse dealer and is later sold on again and again and later found in an abused condition, why is this the Operators problem ?
So, I CHALLENGE everyone, including Oscar, who really cares about horses to donate by debit order to HHCU. The depth of your concern will be measured by your taking action and donating to the very organisation which rescues all horses and which really needs the financial help.

Louis the people who make money out of racing need to come to the fore, stud farms, bookies et al why is it always the smaller owners who must pay..we put enough into the game already
