1 000 000 % Inflation
17 years 4 weeks ago
Now a chicken costs a Billion dollars. In 1999 this bought 60 new cars.
Inflation expected to top 5 000 000 % in October.
I have a few clients where the computer system can n longer handle the values and have to convert to a similar logic as the fuel pumps that cant handle the R10.
But not all is lost we have racing from borrowdale thanks to bold P initatives.

Unbelievable that the wonderful George Bush and Gordon Brown have done nothing about Zimbabwe..their excuse is that because it is a former colony it is not the done thing to interfere..No George and Gordon there is no oil to steal and thats why the pair of you do nothing about the plight of these poor people, you pair of useless wankers.

Mori no offence - but what do you think either of them could have done?
If I'm not mistaken, I believe you were against the invasion of Iraq, so I assume your not suggesting anything like that, or are you?
Which then leaves diplomatic means, embargos and alike - what would you have like to have seen them do?
I personally think it could have been sorted 'in-house' so to speak, years ago by Zim's neighbours - including SA. With some 'financial carrots' from the 'west', but at an arms lenght agreement, so as to defuse the 'historical' context of some of the players, that Bob often sites as reasons not to comply.
Respectfully, Jim.

Jim..yes i am against the illegal invasion and now occupation of Iraq. Why did the US and Uk go to Iraq? Blair stated that Saddam could hit us in 45 minutes with WMD. After no WMD was found they sung another tune..regime change. So why can the not force change in Zimbabwe? Unfortunatley Zimbabwes neighbours are doing zilch about it. An invasion would not be required to remove Mugabe. Just a handful of well trained CIA and a few Delta Force personnel would do the trick. Put him and his henchmen on a plane with a one way ticket to The Hague.
Embargos and diplomatic means you say..Mugabe ignores the laws of the world..embargos..those people are so poor and are suffering so much that an embargo of whatever wont make much differance. Mugabe must be one of the richest men in Africa..so why dangle more cash in front of him?
We should feel ashamed of ourselves letting Mugabe do whatever he wants..we sat back and let Rwanda happen..we do nothing about Darfur..If the US and the Uk want to act as the policmen of the world then they should sort out Zimbabwe and not Iraq for the oil.Why dont we do anything about Ubekistan where the people are thrown into boiling oil when doing wrong..oh I almost forgot one of the major oil umplines run through that country. We see fit to sort out only when it suits us.
Dont get me started on the Bush administration on home affairs.God help us if John McCain wins in November as he is just an extension of Bush.

I'm more ashamed of myself as i have done nothing to support change - during apartheid students would rally against injustice now we as South Africans do nothing - even if there was a march against Mugabe's regime i would not attend because of apathy - i hang my head in shame

Mr H,
For those of us with a social conscience, it's heart-rending to just stand by and watch things like Zimbabwe happen.
It's simply not enough to wait for a bolt of lightning from heaven to take out both Mugabe and Mbeki, (preferably while they are holding hands).
It's difficult to know what's best to do but imo Ban Ki-Moon will be a very effective Secretary-General and I plan to volunteer my services to the local UN office in the hope that I can help to improve the Southern African situation in some small way.

Its right you didn't start the thread.
The thread was about inflation in Zimbabwe and not APARTHEID and nor about IRAQ.

Bravo..one question...if Bush and Blair did not destroy Iraq, do you think that OPEC would be doing to the world what they are doing? The Arab world has struck back big time.
