All fair comments but i must admit if i had taken the time to listen to Ralph or whatever Craig had arranged at the time it would have given me some confidence listening to Ralph as he obviously is passionate and knowledgeable in what he does plus added many other valuable inputs re clairwood, the big T that many would agree with

the questions that need to be asked is why is he retiring and why did he have to take over scottsville as what happened to the previous track manager there ?what happens when ralph goes?

Dave there would have been far more understanding if this was communicated at the time and what is the point of a few people going to see the track? Transparency was all that was needed.... it takes months before Ralph actually appears and gives, to his credit, comprehensive feedback and the plan.

When will racing SA learn that communication and transparency is the key?

Yes, KZN racing figures are down but they can be turned around, no need for anything else but swift action with the will to remain independent.

Last year 2016, Santa Anita installed a whole new Turf Track which replaced their old one. They still managed to hold the Breeders Cup Races. This was done I think around 3 to 4 months. They could have taken a leaf out of their book....

In November 1993 a bridge is south London had cracks in it and work started to fix these cracks. They shut the bridge down to traffic.

On the 17th of January 1994 The Northridge earthquake ocurred in LA. The Santa Monica freeway collapsed. The freeway was shut for traffic and just before the end of Feb 1994 the freeway was reopend for traffic.

Two years later the bridge in London was still been worked on. The Americans know how to get things done.

Every single issue that Ralph Smout identifies relates to one single common denominator...they put 2 tracks where there is only room for one..........no track tour was ever going to change that.
Ultimately there is only one solution, but probably not in my time......it will only be put into motion when this lot that made the cock-up are no longer around to blush!

Goldcircle with the capital that they received with the selling of Clairwood, a portion of it should have gone to bursaries. Horticulture could have been one of the fields.

They still obviously can award bursaries so in years to come they wont be in a disposition.

Other racecourses around the world have already changed back to Turf or Dirt after installing Synthetic Surfaces. Toowoomba in Australia is one of them.

Biggest mistake was to install a polytrack. That was down to greed.Since poly racing started, the state of KZN racing has gone backwards fast. The July is becoming a joke, with the better horses giving the season a miss, because of the state of the tracks in KZN.Even with this narrow track the operators still insist on having 18 runners in the July because of greed, when clearly the track can only accomodate a max of 16 runners. After selling Clairwood, the best track in KZN,the rot is setting in and i believe the lack of grass racing is affecting the trainers to compete with the other racing centers. My 2 cents worth and now i wait for the attacks from posters who still think KZN racing is moving forward and in the right direction.
