Today's circus at the Vaal is an example of why turnovers are dropping.

The operators just change distances, tracks, courses or whatever they like and then expect punters to just suck it up as all bets must stand when it comes to exotics.

They are simply reaping what they sow.Just rewards!

Seeing as the distances of races no longer seem to be important, why don't we just make all races over 1000m?

tO both operators continue to have non racing people in charge and continue to employ family and best friends and you will continue to have all the problems you face now but what do the top brass care as most are close to retirement and will be living comfy lives with no care in the world ...And to all those who havent got the balls to voice your opinion and get the current management thrown out on the streets you are all getting what you deserve

and then later when a horse that ran over wrong trip wins at 20-1 in his next start the punters cry and leave for the soccer - and Vee will cry that turnover is down because of the openbet not because of incompetence!!

Why ? There were bookies long before the tote?

I have raced all over the world and the places where there is only a tote (HK, Singapore, France, Australia) seem to all have very robust racing cultures, good racing and solid financials

Bookies are full with sports/numbers betting while Totes are empty - Fact is 90% of Foreign African punters don't care for Racing. Thy have a gambling streak no doubt but the solution lies in converting just 10% to Racing and we will be ok but how to do that is a mystery..(I know a few Nigerian punters and they spend between R200-R1000 per day on soccer bets)

You must remember the gambling yards!

Don't listen that owners are not punters, the real story is most owners in SA got into the game through first being punters!

And try asking them to place their win bets on the tote

I had my 1st winner in the UK on Monday. Im now involved with 3 horses here and unless something drastic happens I will be completely out of SA racing in the near future. I have been blessed with honest hardworking trainers but they are struggling. We the owner are struggling, the people in charge are continuously ruining my beloved sport.

Most of us are nett contributors if you not putting in but are taking out then that is where the cull should start.
