As you asked clanners so nicely Dave, here;s a rare blog waffle from me... I only ask for you to post 8 winners via word of mouth in return, I'll allow them to get one wrong through sheer bad luck or whatever!
R1 Not entirely convinced about Odaiba's form as, although it looks on bare form that he has improved, following some of the lines through suggests that might not be the case and he may even finish behind stablemate Dancing Ruga. The money for Trini's Oratorio just adds more mud to the murky waters. If I play, I think I will chance the well-being of Run For Your Life who has had excuses in his last two and finished infront of Battle Creek in 4/4 meetings, Odaiba was beaten 2.75l by BC lto.
R2 Reverend could improve for the step up in trip and has the draw but the trainer doesn't exactly sound convinced the 1600 will suit, just on jockey's advice? He also states there is little between Reverend and Seattle Dragon, if that be true then they will have found a way of making up the 5 lengths that Mambo Tango finished infront of SD last month, though that was over 1300. With an equal draw I would be with Silver Blade but in 13/13 and clearly no star. it might be tough to overcome Mambo Tango. Too many questions with no value. A pass though I have a hunch Reverend could be the right one.
R3 I think this could be between Lotus Elan, Jeremy and King Of the Castle. Although a long trip awaits, I still think the latter two, with draws of 17 and 16 respectively, will have trouble getting to LE and likely will need luck in running to have any chance of doing so.
R4 Nordic Leader from Warren Place.
R5 A few with fair shouts but I am going with Notting Hill from the 1 box and hope I am right for Zoro, the Shams and Dave.
R6 Elusive Rose ticks plenty and will be the selection but I wouldn't be surprised if stepped up in trip, Black Hall Bar mounts a serious challenge. Tripolina could be thereabouts while Mock Mambo, stepped up to this distance for the first time on 3rd run after a rest, could be some value with the 1 box and the appie giving her little to carry again.
R7 I like Victoria College here though I have a slight concern over the trip. The Greeff runners are respected but I think the value dangers might come from the Smith stable. Night Dancer is a generally consistent mare and she showed signs of resuming that mould lto, now on 3rd run after a break and with the 1 box she could surprise. Misristocrat might also be worth a rand or two, she is also on 3rd run after a break and steps up to a more suitable distance here with a light weight, a repeat of her penultimate run would put her in the mix but the 14 box won't help her cause.
R8 Another where a few have reasonable claims and again I am siding with the Shams, Rock Me Var was perhaps a little unfortunate lto and I think this distance will also suit. A crazy rand on Ess El Kay.
R9 Even more open looking. With draws taken into consideration, I've landed on Rand Hedge from Bah, the latter might get stuck behind a wall while the former's favourable swing in the weights should also help. Varistar shouldn't be dismissed too quickly and a crazy rand on Sudden Surprise.
Enjoy the day Dave and Zoro and pass on my best wishes (and hopefully luck!) to Dorrie please.
I shall be kind and not (really) mention the renewal of the bat and ball game which recommences shortly with the mighty England 1-0 up
Be(s)t of luck to all
