Learnings from today:
Green Point Stakes. Seemed a true run race courtesy of Captain America. The form can probably be relied on, but for most of these horses this was a prep for the Queens Plate and Met. It’s unlikely that Legal Eagle ran to his full rating of 123- I would use Capt America as the line horse (118) and rate this run by LE at 120. That means that Gold Standard ran to his 115 and Sail South a bit below his recent form at 113. Edict of Nantes gets bumped up to 119.
Regarding the Met picture, it is likely that both Gold Standard and Edict of Nantes could be better over 2000m than 1600m. Both were running on strongly.
Legal Eagle remains the best miler in the country and has an excellent chance of again winning the Queens Plate, and at WFA has a good chance to add the Met.
Fillies Guineas
A scintillating performance by Snowdance. She won easing up and the winning margin could have been considerably wider than the 3.5L. She proved that she stays the mile in what also appeared to be a true run race, and may well stay further.
The second and third fillies showed significant improvement here and thus can’t be used as line horses. Lady in Black did not have the easiest of passages. Magical Wonderland appeared not to fully stay the trip and seems best at 1200m at this stage.
I would rate Snowdance’s performance at 108 for comparison to the rest of the field, but given the fact that she was eased up she should go to at least MR 110.
Then Oh Susanna and Fresnaye now 101, Lady in Black ran 99, Magical Wonderland 99.
Given the ease of this win, it must be very tempting for the Snowdance connections to take on the colts in their Guineas.
