Re: SA Hall Of Fame... Who would you put forward?
6 years 5 months agoVoting to determine the first four inductees into South African racing’s Hall of Fame opens on Friday 28 December 2018 and closes on Monday 7 January 2019 at midnight.
DECEMBER 28, 2018
To vote, go to tabonline.co.za and click on The South African Hall of Fame banner.
According to Clyde Basel, Racing Executive from Phumelela, it was a mammoth task to draw up a shortlist of nominees, considering South African horseracing’s rich history spanning well over a century.
“The National Racing Committee, comprising representatives from various racing operators, tasked a panel with the enormous task,” said Basel.
“The panel did an exceptional job and we are convinced that the horseracing fraternity and the public in general will be satisfied with the list of nominees.”
The process to determine the first equine inductees was set in motion by the South African Hall of Fame, who, in collaboration with Sun International and Phumelela, felt that it was long overdue to honour the sport’s legends.
The South African Hall of Fame, established in 2015, strives to tell the stories of extraordinary achievers while celebrating their holistic accomplishments, not only their talent, skill and successes.
“Through this we strive to inspire individuals to dream, and reach their full potential which in turn puts them in the position to make a difference in South Africa,” reads the vision of the Hall of Fame.
It was decided that one horse, one jockey, one trainer and one owner – from any era – will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a start.
According to Basel, there will be further opportunities to nominate other heroes for the Hall of Fame. If a current nominee does not make the grade this time round, they might in future get another chance.
The first four inductees to the Hall of Fame will be announced on 16 January 2019 at the barrier draw for the Sun Met at the Grand West Casino in Cape Town.

The guys have forgotten Hawaii. He was US Champion Turf horse, he broke the course record at Belmont, he is still the only horse to win all three Guineas in SA, he is already in the US Hall of Fame, and more, he has bred the 3rd, 2nd and the winner of the Epsom Derby, arguably the world’s bluest riband.
The above nominated have no chance to Hawaii. Gimmeabreak ...

Mrs Jaffee penned I think 2 Racing books and was just as involved in Racing as her husband - They were a proper team not just a Husband who added his wife's name to horses bought - She loved London News .... Perhaps an error in the nomination but if not an injustice and patriarchal at the very least

It would appear that Horseracing in South Africa only started in the late 1960 s
What about trainer Syd Garrett Cookie Amos and jockeys Cocky Feldman, Tiger Wright
And there are a dozen more that deserve a place
That is the same for all catergories
