99.9% of that response is sh*t - but at least he did address the gigantic elephant in the room :

Why did gold circle decide to autocratically change the race-card, further confusing the racing public? - Which would be deemed more important, the draw or the merit rating?

Dev - perhaps you could give us some honest insight into a) Why there was zero public participation in a decision that materially affected each and every KZN racing patron and b) how dramatically turnovers in KZN have dropped since the implementation of this horrendous system. And please - I know of plenty regular racing clients that no longer support the centre since the initiative was launched - so I really don't believe that you can, with a clear conscience, spin this as being a positive addition to racing .... rather just let us know when it will be scrapped OR in the case that it isn't - how you feel the Draw / Saddle cloth system will go when Rainbow Bridge carries number 15 and Camphoratus number 1 on July day .....

Clearly, I have offended a minority at an emotive level. For this I sincerely apologise. Yes, my response may come across as an over-simplification of facts, but I did that with good reason. Kindly indulge me as I make the following submission:

• Should horseracing in South Africa collapse, I believe that, betting companies like Hollywoodbets would survive as their business is not confined to horseracing. I don’t have the facts but I actually believe that sports-betting (codes outside of horseracing) and other options like lucky numbers and lotteries may currently generate greater revenue for these companies; or at the very least, well on its way to achieving this. Based on my personal observation the new generation prefer betting on sporting codes outside of horseracing.

• The South African Horseracing industry is a major employer in the country and is experiencing its most challenging period in the history of the industry. While the industry attempts to reinvent itself and introduce new innovations to ensure sustainability, it is imperative that the horseracing fraternity at large remain mindful of what drives this industry – the punter. Shaheen Shaw echoed this well when he said: “They are the lifeblood of the game…. No that’s not entirely correct – They are the game.” Simply; no punter, no horseracing industry – unemployment for thousands.

There are, clearly, undertones in Hollywoodbets response to Vedan’s article that suggest disdain towards the punter – anonymous, nameless, otherwise or another. The article lacked necessary diplomacy and decorum.

Disclaimer: My contribution to this thread is not intended for the myopic.

Apologies Bob,

I stand to be corrected but I believe that the global average is around 32%or marginally higher.

Personally I am a big fan of Hollywood and think they are so far ahead of the game. They are doing some great initiatives with gold circle but I still believe that the only end winner will be Hollywood where more and more people will take open bets with them . If they really are in this for the love of horse racing and to help keep gold circle going then they need to openly declare their open pool sizes and pay a portion over to gold circle each year for the running of horse racing. The open bet will only grow !

People clearly love the open bet , maybe Hollywood should launch an open bet on gold circle website , they have the bankroll to take on the risk. It’s time these guys are open and work together. If gold circle receive their fair share of the profits it could work for everyone and actually make horse racing better , as long as everything is open and transparent.

I agree with you. - i commend Devin for tackling head-on these discussions that are so subjective ( they are out there in the face of the public and dont hide ) -I personally am impressed that they are so business orientated and give so much back to all sports and community projects
