It was basically just a big F. U

Is it a question of a business growing so quickly that it doesn't have the right people and structures in place to cater for the growth...with the resultant poor(?) customer service experience ??

I think you hit the nail on the head.

I think the tote and the bookies have slightly different issues...
With the tote, the lack of investment in hardware has created an unstable website as it cannot cater for any increased traffic - the actual site hasn't changed much over the years and is simple as it should be for the purpose intended...
With the bookies, they have invested in the hardware but the websites are too cluttered with promotions and information that it runs into issues...takes too long to load a page, too long to process a bet, etc...doesn't matter what the hardware is, clutter is clutter...
Sadly, people have forgotten how to do simple or has simple become too difficult to do?
And in the end, no matter how great a system, process, policy or control is, it is the people therein that make or break it...
