If everything could go wrong in a race it was this.
Raced wide,couldn't get in,went to the outside as they turned for home then somehow Van Niekerk thought it a good plan to come back inside to race with the rest of the field.
Maybe he saw that the outside going wasn't good and decided to come back but by that time he has run 50m more than the rest of the field not counting the wide passage he had the entire race.

What a pathetic ride. This is the reason that van Niekerk will never become a legendary jockey!!!
