Didn`t Phum attempt to appoint someone from the Gambling Board before and the actual gambling board imposed a year cooling off period on the guy, preventing him taking up his post?

Madness to own a horse here in SA unless you have plenty spare cash and are willing to fork out every month.
Even the biggest owners,Van Vuuren and Jooste, never used their own money they used stolen money.

Trainers still need owners to buy horses even though we all say that their is no return for a owner...that's what I call love for the game

How many non racing folk knows about the final leg of the Tripple Crown and Tiara tomorrow?
Where is the advertising to get new blood in the game?
If my dad and his dad wasn’t horse racing punters, I would have probably not been a punter.
same goes with me....my step dad an amateur jockey.... his brother a fully fledged jock in the 50, 60 & 70's

Unfortunately love for the game has to stop sometimes and common sense must prevail.
Especially in these trying times with Covid limiting spare money for most and these abysmal stakes we have now.
An owner has 5 horses.Pays R50 000 a month for training fees.Add another R10 000 for vet fees.
So that's R60 000 a month and that's probably on the low side of training fees.
Each horse cost R100 000 and obviously not the top of horses but hopefully you find a Louis The King, probably not as seen by some specimens gracing the KZN race courses.
So over 3 years your outlay, hopefully no hidden or extra costs along the way, would have been around R2,6 million.
What's the chances these days of getting all that money back in stakes?
It's become a very expensive pastime to have the thrill of leading a horse into the winners enclosure this day and age.
That's why I think owner numbers will continue to dwindle until stakes are at a decent level.
And how long will that take?Hopefully when the stakes are competitive not all the owners have already left.
