I went to Kenilworth today fully expecting that Charles Dickens would get beat at the weights. Both horses that I thought would have his measure, Russian Rock and Fifty Fiver ran their races, but were thrashed, with Aldo not asking for any effort, and the winning margin could have been much further. CD went into this race 115, and ran at least 20 above that, and it could have been more. I haven't seen a 3 yo put up that kind of performance since Horse Chestnut, and this horse is still maturing and has not yet gone his optimal distance.
The Jhb boys might at well stay at home, and Cousin Casey, a seriously good horse, will be up against it in the Cape Guineas.
I think that Charles has shown enough today that I would pick him to beat Jet Dark and Kommetdieding in the Kings Plate.
