Warsaw expected to handle the dirt

Preview: Dubai, Thursday 3.15pm GMT (live on ATR/RUK)
Nad Al Sheba: GNAds4U (handicap) 7f, Dirt

Doug Watson, trainer of Green Coast "Has been in great form and should make a bold bid giving weight all round."

Mike De Kock, trainer of Warsaw and Hamlool "Warsaw ran well last week and should handle the dirt. Hamlool has been off a long time and is likely to need the run."

Fawzi Nass, trainer of Halkin "Made a pleasing start last week andwe know conditions suit. We just need a bit of luck after a string of placed runners."

Richard Mullen, jockey of Select Reason "His best run last year was over this trip and his comeback over five furlongs should have brought him on. Must have a place chance at least."

Erwan Charpy, trainer of Stepping Up "We have taken the headgear off and his best run was under very similar conditions almost a year ago - hopefully he can bounce back to that kind of form."

Escape Route may just need the run

Preview: Dubai, Thursday 3.50pm GMT (live on ATR/RUK)
Nad Al Sheba: 4Men Trophy (handicap) 1m2f, dirt

Royston Ffrench, jockey of Jet Express
"Jet Express has been a great servant to us all and was a bit unlucky in a Listed race last time. Has to give weight all round but should run another brave race."

Doug Watson, trainer of Fares
"He surprised us when winning last time, though we had fancied his chances the week before! He remains in good form and should go well again."

Fawzi Nass, trainer of Jonquil
"He just tired when third last week and that has hopefully put him spot on. We know conditions suit and have to be hopeful he can go very close."

Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Yamal
"He made a very pleasing UAE debut and has improved for that outing but has to prove himself on the dirt."

Richard Mullen, jockey of Escape Route
"He is a nice new recruitto the yard but has been off since September and may just need the run to bring him on."

Mike De Kock, trainer of Naples
"He was hampered early on last week so deserves another chance but it looks a competitiverace."

Erwan Charpy, trainer of Tawaash
"His best run for us was his first and we are just hoping reverting to dirt and stepping up to a mile helps."

Sarah Moore, assistant to trainer Stan Moore, trainer of Sgt Schultz
"He is better than able to show last time when slowly away. We do not think the dirt will be a problem but we cold not really prove that last time."

Familiar Territory should go close on return to dirt

Preview: Dubai, Thursday 4.25pm GMT (live on ATR/RUK)
Nad Al Sheba: Wheels 2000 (handicap) 1m2f, turf

Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Familiar Territory
"He won this race last year when he also chased home Curlin at the carnival. Will appreciate the return to dirt over his optimum conditions and should go close."

Doug Watson, trainer of Dynamic Saint and Mutasallil
"Dynamic Saint bounced back to form last time and was second in this race last year. We know he is in good heart and he will not be far away. Mutasallil was third last year and always needs a few runs to reach peak fitness."

Roytson Ffrench, jockeyof Glen Nevis
"This is his level, though he ran well enough in Maktoum Challenge II. Should stay this far and can run well in a tough contest."

Fawzi Nass, trainer of Aleutian
"He has form freshand worked well on Saturday so we expect a good show."

Mike De Kock, trainer of Art of War
"HeiIs having his fourth carnival start and this step up in trip should suit judges on last week's second."

Erwan Charpy, trainer of Singing Poet
"On his best form he would have a big chance but he has never been an easy horse to train and he has not shown his best so far this season. The small field may help him though."

City Style should have speed to cope with trip

Preview: Dubai, Thursday 4.55pm GMT (live on ATR/RUK)
Nad Al Sheba: GNB Plate Conditions Race 61/2f, turf

Mike De Kock, trainer of Indiscutible and India Tiberina
"Both have struggled on dirt and this looks an ideal opportunity totry them on turf. It looks a good race though."

Herman Brown, trainer of Balcacre Nov
"He arrived very late, having run in Argentina in mid-November, so is sure to improve a lot for the run. However, has Group 1 form in the book and is a nice recruit."

"Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of City Style and Jose Adan
"City Style ran very well at the Breeders' Cup and should have the speed to cope with this drop back in trip. Jose Adan keeps improving in his work and is a nice horse who can hopefully progress."

Doug Watson, trainer of Tishtar
"He is ready for his first run for us and we will find out exactly where we stand with him."

Richard Mullen, jockey on Jargelle
"She was not disgraced on dirt last time but hopefully these conditions will suit her better and she can run well. There are some nice horses in there though."

JJ The Jet has World Cup night aspirations

Preview: Dubai, Thursday 5.30pm GMT (live on ATR/RUK)
Nad Al Sheba: InsideoutTrophy Conditions Race 51/2f, dirt

Mike De Kock, trainer of JJ The Jet Plane
"This is a serious sprinter, plain and simple; he is very quick and straight enough to go close. The Group 1 penalty after a long break is obviously a concern, while he has won at The Vaal on dirt. We have World Cup night aspirations so he has to goclose to justify them."

Royston Ffrench, jockey of Change Alley
"Change Alley was staying on strongly to win over five last time I rode him so the trip will suit but a couple of these are very good and it is a tough race."

Doug Watson, trainer of Force Freeze
"We are hopeful of a big run; he is certainly better than his Al Shindagha Sprint effort would suggest and the shorter trip should not be a problem."

Rashed Bouresly, trainer of Star Crowned
"He has been in great form for over a year now and remains so. He should go very close."

Herman Brown, trainer of Narc
"I was not actually too disappointed last week and expect a much better show this week back on the dirt.

Suroor looking forward to running Vineyard

Preview: Dubai, Thursday 6.05pm GMT (live on ATR/RUK)
Nad Al Sheba: UAE 2,000 Guineas - Sponsored by Gulf News (Group 3) 1m, dirt

Mike De Kock, trainer of Rocks Off and Blues And Rock
"Obviously this is a hot contest with Vineyard Haven added to the Godolphin duo who have beaten us already. Both of ours will have needed that run and there is little between them - Rocks Off was carrying a Group 1 penalty remember. We will run well but whether that will be good enough remains to be seen."

Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Desert Party, Regal Ransom and Vineyard Haven
"Obviously Vineyard Haven is an exciting addition and a horse we are really looking forward to running. He has settled in well and is ready for a run, though he will improve for it, but he does not show an awful lot in the mornings on our all-weather (tapeta) surface. He is a genuine dirt horse though so Nad Al Sheba will be ideal. Desert Party was very pleasing when he won and has actually beaten Vineyard Haven in the States. He has improved from that outing as has Regal Ransom who was a good second. We have to be hopeful with all three holding strong claims."

Herman Brown, trainer of Redding Colliery
"He ran very well behind Desert Party and hope that the change of headgear will help him settle a bit better. He needed that run and we expect him to run a big race but it is a strong field."

World Cup night the main target for Oracle

Preview: Dubai, Thursday 6.40pm GMT (live on ATR/RUK)
Nad Al Sheba: Xpress 2000 (handicap) 1m2f, turf

Herman Brown, trainer of Oracle West
"He ran well enough over an inadequate trip last time and the winner came out and won a Group race. This is more his trip but World Cup night is his main target and that is a long way off so there is something left to work on."

Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Kirklees and Once More Dubai
"Kirklees ran very well last time in a Group race and the extra distance will suit. He has improved from that run and should go close. Once More Dubai is a new horse with Group 1 form in Italy and whois ready for a run judged on his work at home."

Doug Watson, trainer of Pallodio
"One of our most exciting new recruits certainly and he pleased Richard (Hills) when galloping on Saturday. It looks a strong field and we are drawn wide but we should find out where we stand with him."

Danny O'Brien, trainer of Barbaricus
"He takes a lot of racing as he showed last year when progressing to be third in the Caulfield Cup and third in the MacKinnon. He had a run before he left home (Australia) but that was almost a month ago now so he will improve from the run. We are looking for a Sheema Classic invite so we need a good run and Super Thursday is definitely on his agenda. We have the worst draw but he is a straightforward kind of horse and Mick (Kinane) may not have sat on him but is a great jockey. His work has been good and we are looking forward to it."

Erwan Charpy, trainer of Hello Morning
"His French form is top class but he could have run better at Jebel Ali on his first start for us. We are trying blinkers and hopefully they and the return to turf can eek out some improvement but it does look a very good race."

Jamie Osborne, trainer of Docofthebay
"He will certainly improve for the run, from out of the handicap, but has settled in well. We did get a run into him at Wolverhampton before he flew out but this really is a high quality race so it is hard to be confident."

Mike De Kock, trainer of Mr Brock
"He was arguably the best of the bunch under these conditions in Mauritius but this is a very different kind of challenge and we will all know a lot more after the race."

Not trying to suggest that JJ can get beat, but has anyone noticed that sand specialist - and winner of the Emerald with top weight if I remember correctly - Narc is receiving 5.5 kg's from JJ; may give the champ a run for his money if back to best?

ED MARNANE

ALL eyes will be focused on Nad Al Sheba tonight for the eagerly awaited local debut of 2008 U.S. champion two-year-old and Kentucky Derby hopeful Vineyard Haven, who faces nine rivals in the UAE 2000 Guineas, on his first start for new handler Saeed bin Suroor.

The Godolphin trainer continues to bang in the winners at this year’s carnival, saddling a treble last Friday, putting him five clear at the top of the trainers’ table.

Surprisingly Godolphin’s stable jockey, Frankie Dettori, currently heading the carnival jockeys’ table with eight wins, rides Desert Party, with Daragh O’Donohoe riding Suroor’s other runner Regal Ransom. Vineyard Haven, who is entitled to be ring-rusty on his first outing in 131 days, holds sound claims as he’s proven under these conditions and if he’s to have any serious aspirations of winning America’s biggest prize at Churchill Downs in May needs to put up a big show.

Desert Party had a diminishing 0.50 lengths to spare over Regal Ransom in a 1400m conditions race last month, the pair meets on identical terms and both should give a good account. Redding Colliery, representing Herman Brown,

whose team has struggled to find form at this year’s carnival, is held by the Godolphin pair when back in third on the aforementioned conditions race.

Brown’s compatriot, Mike de Kock, is seeking a third successive Guineas following the wins of Asiatic Boy and Honour Devil. The South African trainer saddles Blues And Rock and Rocks Off. The pair finished fourth and fifth respectively behind Desert Party, they need to step up considerably if they’re to turn the tables tonight.

The Pascal Bary-trained unbeaten Brazilian import Regionalista, who carries the hopes of France, looks best of the remainder.

In the previous race De Kock is fancied to win the 1100m conditions race on dirt with champion South African sprinter JJ The Jet Plane, a multiple Grade 1 winner, on his first run in Dubai. Cruelly denied a run in the Hong Kong Sprint in December due to quarantine red-tape regulations, the gelding comes here with a big reputation and if he can handle the underfoot conditions, he should be too classy for the opposition.

Star Crowned, who set a track record when beating Sir Edwin Landseer and 11 others in the corresponding race 12 months ago, looks the main danger. Although, his busy campaign recently (fifth start in four weeks) is a worry. Force Freeze, a smooth winner on his local debut before flopping in the Al Shindagha Sprint, can’t be overlooked if bouncing back to form. He possesses tremendous early pace, suggesting the step back in distance won’t inconvenience this unexposed son of Forest Camp.

In Race 2 10 go to post for a trappy 1400m handicap on dirt in which local trainers have tended to dominate in these events in the history of the carnival. Fares, the only last-start winner in the line-up, holds solid claims, while Jet Express, runner-up in a Listed contest on his most recent outing, and Jonquil, a promising third seven days behind Roman’s Run on his comeback, look the main dangers.
A case could be made for Godolphin’s Yamal provided the gelding handles the conditions on his dirt debut.

Top-weight Green Coast can enhance the excellent record recently of champion trainer Doug Watson in the opening race. The six-year-old comes here in good heart after finishing a creditable second behind My Indy in Round I of the Maktoum Challenge, the winner franked the form by going on to capture the second leg last week.

Familiar Territory can repeat his victory of 12 months ago in the 2000m handicap on dirt for the in-form Suroor/Dettori partnership. The son of Cape Cross, who must concede weight to his seven rivals, shaped with plenty of promise on his seasonal reappearance behind Silver Mist in a Group 3 contest on turf.

Tonight’s assignment represents a drop in grade. The enigmatic Dynamic Saint, a winner last time over the course, Art of War, third in a similar contest last week, and Glen Nevis look the obvious dangers.
Half an hour later, the 1300m conditions race on turf, a trial for the inaugural Meydan Classic next month, looks at the mercy of Saeed bin Suroor. Having finished behind the placed horses in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, City Style (Frankie Dettori) sets the standard on his local/Godolphin bow. He should find this company far easier.

Another US import, Jose Adan (Ted Durcan), winner of two of his three starts last year, gives Suroor a strong hand. If the Godolphin pair are both to be overturned, the Bahrain raider Jargelle looks the most likely. She wasn’t disgraced behind Sos Brillante on dirt on her carnival debut last month.

Winner of the valuable Weatherby’s Super Sprint last year at Newbury, the speedy daughter of Kheleyf will relish returning to racing on turf. Although, there are stamina fears about staying the distance
