mr hawaai:

i've had similar problem last and this month. Was also told thta my service was 'cappedd'; i had used up my 1gig bandwith.

Yesterday, I decided to upgrade to 3 gigs (next level).
From the time i was given a new user name and password, till circa 10pm, i could not connect; the internet light was always on on the modem.

One technician said that my pc n modem were not 'talking' to one another so, problem on my side. I bought new cables- still nothing!

Eventually, the 2nd last tech managed to get me to link onto the net- but just one or two sites.

When i clicked on any favourites, the pc would hang and then...the page cannot be displayed.. pls ...tools... contact your...!!!!!!

Phoned back (yeh, pls be patient, your call will be answerfed...!), told technician let's start from the START!

Went through evrything again (I was prompting him what to do next!). Still nothing!

Forgot, also went into start, run, type in cmd, then ipconfig and then a 'ping' test, besides adding on dns server (in properties of explorer) 196; 25; 255; 34 ....!

Then, he suggested I press the RESET button on the modem for about 20 secs.

Went through the steps again; this time, a new connection. BOOM, it worked! Both, emails and net!

BTW:
My Amex card is 'capped' with a limit. Last month (28) they permitted an unauthorised debit which sent my balance over my limit by about R500.

This month, I received a statement; the transaction reversed circa September, which I'll receive this month.

However, they hit me about R140 for 'exceeding limit' plus a 'finance charge' of R40!

Where are their checks and controls for anyone exceeding 'limit'? Or, is this a gimmick? They allow you toexceed, then hit you with thiese exorbitant charges?

At least, Telkom did not; the gods help us if they had this facility also!
