Posted this on the other site too...
Julie made tremendous improvements in her presenting and is a likeable characters in the game. I tend to agree though that all objectivity disappears out the window as soon as there is personal involvement... It amounts directly to conflict of interests. How can you advise a betting public when you are emotionally attached. This does not only refer to Julie, but any presenter with some kind of attachment to a yard/ horse. Same can be said for Sheldon Peters, Brandon's agent, how can he call races involving Brandon and then throw in magic superlatives when he skates clear of the field and wins by 5 lengths? calling it top class jockeyship hasn't quite got the same ring to it coming from someone that has such a close connection.
Julie is top class, but I noticed that she tends to get very excitable and after one of PJ's races could hardly speak as her voice was gone as a result of her screaming PJ home. It cant happen.. I cant recall CLare Balding ever coming across like that when interviewing her brother or even Will buick when he rode Bucellatti at Epsom last year. Not a trace of subjectivity.
I am not knocking Julie, her presenting was and will always be top class. Phumelela made a huge mistake and could have approached this in a completely different manner. Tellytrack is poorer without her contributions.

At least PGE has become brilliant at something, even if it is alienating as many people as possible.

I was back home in SA for 2 weeks recently and thought Julie was really refreshing as a presenter. She's not in the league of Alex Hammond (UK racing/sports presenter), but her enthusiasm gave the coverage I watched a nice touch.
Can't understand where Phumelela are coming from, racing is full of people with connections and family within the industry, just the way the game is.

PJ, not owned by the OpH's, No disrespect to the Great Horse Chesnut.
The politics of racing leaves a lot to be desired for.
Depending on the weather tomorrow, may the peoples horse win tomorrow

It would have been a better decision to just have asked Julie to skip the one race.

With all due respect, why should she skip the race?

Another Question: this guy, who is commentatin the races in kimberley and arlington (Scuman or somethin like that, don't know the name): this guy is allowed to SHOUT (not only in the finish) as if there is a gang of fanatics running with knifes behind him, i always have to turn the lous speakers down - and never anybody thought, that here is too much emotion?
i guess, this arguement with emotions is just fake, some other differences behind the scene...

As a compromise.
Let me give you my own personal experience.
My longtime partner in Team Valor, a student of form named Jeff Siegel, works on one of two American racing channels. I owned the company, yet everytime he spoke of one of our horses I cringed. It became so distasteful, that it motivated me to buy him out of the company. So I can only imagine what others, especially competing stables, must have thought his his comments and emotional displays.
Julie is a wonderful presenter and a true professional, but try as she might, it is virtually impossible to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest.
In America, journalists at the big newspapers no longer allow their writers to accept free lunches or drinks from sporting venues, in order to avoid the appearance of conflicts of interest.
Racing needs to do everything it can to present the purest appearance possible for the sport.
As painful as this must be for Julie and as unfair as it may have been handled, I can see the logic in it.
This is not to say that the program handled this or other transgressions in a well done manner.
