A further four rides for Betfair Ambassador Ryan Moore on the second day of York's Dante Festival, including one on the favourite in the feature race of the week...

In good nick and she's the form horse
14:10 - Passion

She is in good shape. She won her Group 3 over 1m6f at Naas last season and probably ran a career best for me on her final start when third in the fillies and mares' Group 1 over 1m4f at Ascot in October, notwithstanding her third in the Irish Oaks. Clearly, her best form has come over further than this but she doesn't lack pace and any more rain the better. Like I said, she comes in here in good nick and she is the form horse going into the race but I do respect Queen Power and she has had the benefit of a run.

In good form and is a course winner
14:40 - Ouzo

He went up to this career-high mark after winning here last season and he ran well off it when seventh in the Lincoln. Clearly, he would appear to have no secrets from the handicapper but he is a course winner who is ground-versatile - that win here in October came on soft but he has plenty of form on better ground - who comes here in fair form.

A good Dante and I'm hopeful of a good run
15:10 - High Definition

This is an important and a good trial, with a whole host of these boasting some interesting, progressive and unexposed profiles. Clearly, High Definition is our number one hope in here and has been the subject of a lot of talk and speculation in recent days, but it will just be good to get him out on the track and see where we stand.
I'd be pretty hopeful of a good run but, equally, I would expect to him to progress throughout the season, as this is his starting point. But his Beresford win marked him out as an obvious Derby candidate - he did very well to win there from off the pace - so stepping up from a mile is going to suit this Galileo colt.

Whether or not he is good enough on the day, we will see - and, as I said, there are plenty you can fancy against him in here, including a Group 1 winner in Gear Up, who you have to respect - but we obviously think he is an exciting horse with a lot of potential this season.

It's a good Dante though, and I have a lot of time for the Godolphin colt Hurricane Lane - I rode the second at Newbury - and it is interesting that Jim Bolger is bringing over Ballysax runner-up Flying Visit too, given the 3yo talent in that yard.

Should go close with step up in trip suiting
16:15 - Secret Strength

He probably boasts the best form of those with experience courtesy of his Newmarket second and this Mehmas colt did shape very promisingly there. Who knows what he is up against in here, but it would be no surprise to see him go close, with the step up in trip likely to suit.

Maybe a bit disappointing from High Definition but still a possible Derby winner ?
Will be interesting who Ryan will ride?

Still a £560 profit

Ryan Moore has a good book of six rides on the final day of York's Dante Festival, including on Santiago in the day's feature race, the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup...

Chances in an open race
13:40 - Canonized

She is out of a decent mare of the stable's who won around here and she clearly came forward a ton from her debut when winning on quick ground over 5f at Goodwood last time. She has her chance in what is clearly a very open race.

She has a shot against some smart prospects
14:10 - Ville De Grace

I rode her in her two starts last season and she was a good fifth on her comeback in the Fred Darling, and that form stood up pretty well in the 1000 Guineas. She maybe got a little tired late on at Newbury. If that has brought her on, then she certainly has a shot, even if she is up against some smart and unexposed prospects. I do think Snow Lantern and Love Is You are the two to beat in here though, even if the latter has a 3lb penalty.

Improvement likely and could go well
14:40 - Satono Japan

I didn't ride this Deep Impact colt in any of his first three outings but I was on board for his comeback run at Chelmsford and I was very happy with the way he shaped, especially as he didn't get much racing room late on. A mark of 95 is no gift but I'd like to think he has improvement in him and he could go well in what is obviously a very competitive handicap. I rode Blue Cup when he would have gone very close to winning at Epsom last time with anything like a clear run, and he is probably the one to beat.

Ground and pace should suit but Johnston pair are tough opponents
15:10 - Santiago

On the face of it, some may have thought he was a touch disappointing at Navan last month but I was happy enough with him. The ground was quick enough for him and he didn't relax in a steadily-run race, and the expected easier surface and more even pace here will suit him a lot better. Hopefully, that first run of the season proves to be a good springboard, as we know from last year what a talented horse he is, having won the Irish Derby and finished a close fourth in a St Leger. Sir Ron Priestley will be a tough opponent though, and his stablemate Nayef Road will be, too.

Her toughest assignment yet
15:40 - Highfield Princess

She progressed well at Chelmsford towards the end of the year but she had turf form before that improvement kicked in, too. A mark of 83 looks okay but this is her toughest assignment yet and let's see how her draw in one pans out.

Leading chance in finale
16:50 - Farhan

He won well on his final start last season and was only narrowly touched off by an in-form horse on his return at Salisbury. He is 4lb well-in here, so clearly has a leading chance.

Ryan Moore has a good-looking book of seven rides at Newbury on Saturday, including one on the favourite in the big handicap of the day, the London Gold Cup...

Extra furlong should help following debut success
13:15 - Dukebox

His Kempton debut success has worked out okay, with the runner-up winning next time - though the ones in behind haven't done much - so it will be interesting to see what this Holy Roman Emperor colt can do stepping up in grade. The extra furlong must be a positive looking at his pedigree but he did show plenty of pace at Kempton. We will see. The ground will be an unknown, obviously.

Good Listed race but he has his chance
13:50 - Spycatcher

All his best form has come on good or quicker ground so far, though he ran okay at Redcar on soft, so maybe he wouldn't want too much more rain. But he was a good 2yo, finishing second to Gear Up in the Acomb Stakes, and he returned to that level of form when third at Ascot last time. He has his chance in a competitive Listed race.

Easier ground could suit but this is tough
14:25 - Thunderous

This is clearly a very warm race with Logician and Al Aasy in the line-up, and that makes life hard for the rest of us. But Thunderous is a course winner who stepped up on his reappearance run when third for me in the Jockey Club Stakes last time, and this easier ground could suit him. He has a tough job on against the top two, though.

I'm expecting him to go well
15:00 - Bay Bridge

This is usually one of the better 3yo handicaps of the season, so hopefully Bay Bridge has something in hand of his mark. I wasn't on board for his reappearance win at Newcastle but he looked pretty good to me when improving to win there, with the third winning earlier this week as well, and he certainly has the kind of profile you look for in a winner of this race. I'd expect him to go well.

Palace the one to beat but we'll give it our best shot
15:35 - Lope Y Fernandez

He was pretty luckless last season, running four great races in defeat in Group 1 company from 6f to a mile, and was unfortunate not to pick up at least one of those. So it was great to see him back winning so impressively at Leopardstown on his return, albeit in lesser company than this. He clearly has a lot of pace but we are hopeful he can prove himself over a mile this season in the best company, and this is an obvious race for him. Palace Pier is clearly the one to beat after his impressive return at Sandown and the ground looks like being more in his favour than ours, but we will give it a shot.

Improvement likely but she'll need it
16:10 - Companionship

She looked good in a couple of all-weather runs last season, winning over 1m at Chelmsford, and you would have thought this step up to 1m2f will suit this Galileo filly. She will need to improve to win this - it looks a hot race, with her stablemate Sea Empress, among others, apparently well thought of - but progression looks highly likely. It looks a good race, though.

Goes well fresh and has course form
16:45 - Blue Mist

He is pretty good on his day, as he showed when winning for me over 7f on fast ground at Ascot last summer. Conditions will be different here but he gets a mile and handles ease in the ground, so hopefully he will fine on that score. He doesn't have any secrets from the handicapper but he goes well when fresh and has run well on both starts here, so he has chance in a very competitive handicap. And hopefully his wind op will have helped him.
