Thank you for the wonderful memories, Mr. Ferraris. I can remember the Sunday Tribune caption... "
Distinctly is Derby darling after your win in the S.A Derby", many decades ago.
The Royal Prerogative filly out of Caracel that you trained named That Darned Cat will always have a special place in the memory bank as her start to finish win in a race at the Vaal Racecourse in 1985 was my first biggest win. She was a worthy Jackpot banker and won by about 4 lengths with the Jackpot returning a dividend of about R17,000--, a not too shabby amount in 1985, there was no fractional betting those days.
Royal Line, the stayer by Hobnob whose progeny you did so well with was another that brings back memories, especially when he beat Captain Ekels and Niks or Nothing at Turffontein in a stayers race back in the day.
A living legend from the old school, salute Mr.Ormonde Ferraris.

Mike sack, can you believe it. I too backed That Darn Cat that day! I surmised that she (a she?) would go to the front all alone and that she did. I told all at work and she cruised in. I have never forgotten and probably never will. Amazing you too :-)

Great memories Mac. I also bankered that good horse trained by Roy Magner called Real Hero with jockey R Waterston in the saddle. Took the double with That Darned Cat at 18 to 1 and Jackpot with these 2 bankers cost R77--.
Biggest win for the day about R19,000--

There are many horses I remember trained by Ormond. A personal favourite was a filly called St. Just who I had bankered in a field that contained among others the mighty Roland's Song trained by Ma Hemming/Barnard. Others that I recall fondly are the Shocking pink colours of Hilda Podlas in particular Miss Averof. Also a very tidy punt at 14/1 in the Allan Robertson of that year - Tracey's Element. Sunday Times heading - An Element of Surprise.

Go well Mr Ferraris and enjoy a stress free retirement, we are all the poorer for you taking this decision.
