When a colt attracts a sale price that's just south of $2 million, there's a level of expectation placed on the horse before they even hit the track.

When they then impress in their first two trials, that expectation is only heightened, at least externally.

But trainer Richard Litt is understandably happy to keep things low-key when it comes to his high-priced juvenile Profondo.

"He's a nice horse obviously, a big price tag, but he's going to need a little bit of time," Litt said.

The two-year-old colt is by champion Japanese sire Deep Impact, who died in 2019, out of Redoute's Choice mare Honesty Prevails, who was a winner of the G3 Widden Stakes on debut.

He topped the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale with a final bid of $1.9 million.

He was purchased by Ottavio and Wendy Galletta, who have been big supporters of Litt and the owner/trainer combination has already experienced the ultimate success, with Castelvecchio having won twice at Group One level.

And like Castelvecchio, Profondo was purchased by Galletta Constructions Co Pty Ltd with Arrowfield as the vendor.

Profondo had his first public trial at Haweskbury last month, finishing off stylishly in fourth place before heading to Randwick on Monday where he took out a 1050m heat in eye-catching fashion.

He stopped the clock at 1:01.90, the fastest of eight trials over the distance for the morning by over half a second.

Debuting at 1400m? Keen to watch no bet.

goes again on 3 sept 2022. carded in to grade 2 so will come out of one.
