Onepointsevengone
2 years 3 weeks ago
Former $1.7 million yearling Strategy has had a name change and a rather pointed one at that.
The now five-year-old gelding will do his future racing as Onepointsevengone after being sold via Inglis Digital recently for a modest $4,750.
Heading up the new ownership group is Steve Cunningham who along with a group of mates decided to "have a throw at the stumps" with the modest performer which has failed to live up to his lofty price tag as a yearling.
"The name change has created a bit of talk I've heard but it's just a bit of fun," Cunningham said.
"But how anyone ever paid $1.7 million for him I'll never know. He'd be lucky to be 15 hands high and I doubt he's grown an inch since he was a yearling.
"You see all the time these yearlings going for crazy prices when they don't warrant it. Changing the name has a little to do with that as well you could say."
I Am Invincible Colt Tops Record Book One Sale
January 12, 2019
The second foal of Magic Millions 2YO Classic runner-up Oakleigh Girl by record breaking stallion I Am Invincible has topped the 2019 Gold Coast Yearling Sale after selling for $1.7 million on Saturday night.
The now Melbourne based trainer Lloyd Kennewell was able to outbid the powerful Godolphin operation to secure the star colt who was offered by Yarraman Park Stud on behalf of the Gillard family.
Kennewell purchased the colt in conjunction with Matthew Becker’s Group One Bloodstock, Aquis Farm and successful owner Ozzie Kheir.
“I thought he was the best colt in the sale obviously,” Kennewell said. “We thought he would pass the million, but we didn’t know where he would stop.”
“He’s the sort of horse who looks ideal for the race next year – or races like the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper.”
“He was clearly the top pick for me – I thought he was the best colt on the complex and we wanted to go really big with one this year and we put a good crew together to do it and I think it’s worked out well.”
“It’s led by Ozzie Kheir and hopefully we can continue on and get a really good result with this horse. I think he’s a horse who will have a really good two-year-old career.”
