SA Protea cricket team 2022/2023
2 years 5 months ago
Today for the 24th time a text match was finished in 2 days.
It was the 9th test since 1946 to finish in 2 days
It was the 1st time since 1936 that SA was beaten in 2 days.
Not a great pitch but none the less a very poor performance.

We have one of our best bowling attacks ever from a depth and variety perspective. The cock up comes from the selectors who can't find the top five batters. That side they sent to ozz is not going to get past 250. They should have sent elgar rilee rossouw v d dussen markram bavuma and Heinrich klaasen as top six. Way more solid and powerful than the team they selected

Green top no excuse - the same for both sides; yes one guy turned the match on its 'Head' - but it could have been different had the catch carried to Elgar when the Aussies were 3 down in the first innings.
One does not need to be a cricketing expert to see where the Proteas' problems lie - for some reason our batters are useless - don't think they made 200 in their last 5 innings; I would have taken the young guys like de Zorzi and Rickelton (how come he was apparently injured but scored lots of runs for the Lions ) to Aus - and yes, Petersen is injured, but also has 'potential'; taking the young guys would have been a baptism of fire - but let's face it they could not have faired any worse  And when you pin your hopes on a 'veteran' like Zondo ....
I have said some years ago that the Proteas are on a downward spiral (one can't expect to easily replace players like Smith, Amla, Kallis, de Villiers) - I wish was wrong
and I suspect we are not at the bottom yet - but maybe if we can blood the young guys, there may be some hope
at least the bowlers measure up - especially Rabada, whose record this year is amazing (just wish he would play less limited over matches)
Also the complete ICC structure needs to change - I believe the Proteas only have 3 tests scheduled in 2023 - how can that be - to improve, they need to play
