From Mon 23 June, for the last group games, there are no 9pm games but 10pm (SAT) games. The 6pm (SAT) games remain.

With the last first round games coming up, it's crunch time. I have a question. What is the official ruling on elimination should teams finish on the same points

Is it first head to head that counts i.e. A beat B earlier in the group so A advances?

Is it goal difference first i.e. goals scored, goals conceded and then goal difference, ahead of the head to head result?

Reason i ask, Group G could be very facinating because if head to head counts, assuming Germany beats USA, even if Ghana wins by 12 goals in their last match vs Portugal, they would go out, correct?

Assuming it's my second scenario and USA beat Germay (say) by 2 clear goals, then Ghana would have to beat Portugal by the same margin?

No guessing okay, for someone who has read the rules correctly, i am uncertain myself.

Thanks

Frank Lampard will captain England in their final World Cup game against Costa Rica after manager Roy Hodgson confirmed Steven Gerrard will start on the bench.

Cant find on www.fifa.com but found this with reference to fifa. sports.stackexchange.com/questions/4881/...-the-teams-concerned

Here is the rule for the ranking of the teams in the Group Stage of the World Cup, from Article 41 of the Regulations, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil (PDF):

The ranking of each team in each group shall be determined as follows:

a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings shall be determined as follows:

d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

Taking a double tonight on Austalia and Draw 17/10 onto Croatia and Draw 4/10 working out to 28/10 on the double.

I am hoping that Spain already have one foot on the plane whereas the Aussie each game is like the final to them. Hope the Aussies will be hungrier and will manage to get a result out of the game. Mexico only need a draw to advance with Croatia needing a win, hoping the Mexicans go into the game with a negative mindset of not conceeding. The danger is Croatia could over attack and leave themselves open at the back for a counter attack.

Here is where the competition starts getting interesting. (tu)

Be careful of Australia, isn't Cahill suspended, he appears the most likely scorer in every match.

Holland must be careful they are not caught out by a sucker blow very late in this match. As matters stand Chile can afford to let the match coast along say until the last 10 or so minutes, and then press a la Belgium last night - little or no time for a Dutch recovery.
