Does Money buy everything???
9 years 4 months ago
Was just thinking about this..... England has one of the Highest (if not highest) paying countries in the world of sports... Namely in Rugby, Cricket and Soccer......
They have not managed to progress past the group stages in any of the codes mentioned above (Soccer world cup Brazil, Cricket world cup NZ/Aus and Rugby World Cup on home soil)..... The Protea's might be known as chocker's, but what is England known as???? Its not like they weren't fancies either....
I am sure this must be some sort of world record.... I guess they have to break records some how....

England cricketers get a yearly contract which is around £300k they also get paid around £5k per test match and £1,500 for a one day match.
I have no idea what the footballers get for playing for England.
The rugby players are pretty well paid as well.
In all sports England have great potential and every 5 years or so they have a fantastic team. At the moment their cricket side are very very good. Their football side always let their fans down. They play well in qualification groups and friendlies as the pressure is off but when it comes to the World Cup or Euro Champs they freeze. The last time England had a team worthy of winning something was in 1990 when they went out in the semis on penalties to Germany. They have often lost in penalty shoot outs so in a way you can say that they were either unlucky or they bottled it.
The rugby side can be very good but they seem to change coaches pretty often and with that comes in new players and ideas. In 2003 they were magnificent in winning the world cup in Australia. The new coach will get them near the top again but no side is ever going to rise above the All Blacks. This 6 nations will be tough for them. They wont win it but will be close.

.An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. –Benjamin Franklin

Plenty of flaws in that.
England cricket have just wiped the floor with your boys IN South Africa.
They retained the Ashes.
The Rugby League team beat the worlds best ie New Zealand in a test series.
Admittedly the Union side underperformed, that's why we have a decent coach now.
And Roy's Boys will win euro 2016.
Your still chockers though.LOL

That's why we are disliked across the globe, for a very small country we punch hard.
Nothing better than someone having a dig at a small country when they have just battered a big country.

Pity England could not select 11 Englishman in their cricket team or 15 in their rugby team. Strange that with 11 Englishman in the football team they win nothing but with the foreigners in the cricket and rugby team they seem to do very well. Work that one out.

Small country in terms of land area but still about 50% more than SA in terms of population even with all the migrants we get from across the border...
The punching hard initially came with the use of the barrel of a gun and the financial and other resources acquired through those means enable the perpetuation of punching hard now...

Maybe that's something South Africa should try, then you may be able to stop the slump.
Have you even got a football team? In 20 years you won't have any notable national sides.
Why do you think South African sportsmen pray they have some Anglo Saxon blood from their ancestors.Answer is to get away from a sadly deteriating sporting future.

SA have a useless football team, have been for 500 years. Unfortunately SA sport is going down the tubes and there is not a lot people can do about it at the moment. Players come here to earn big money so you cant blame them. But come on having an Irishman as captain of the England team even you must shake your head.
