Real Madrid host rivals Atletico Madrid in a 1st leg Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night and we take a look at the game from a betting perspective.

Real Madrid hade few problems seeing off Napoli in the last 16, winning 6-1 on aggregate but they had to overcome really stern resistance in the quarter-finals where they were up against German giants Bayern Munich. They won the 1st leg 2-1 away and were favoured to finish the job at home but the Germans matched the score line to send the game into extra time. Madrid were a man up and Ronaldo was on hand to steer them into the last 4. Real Madrid have not been beaten in the Champions League at home this season with 4 wins and a draw in 5 matches. All 5 of these games had 3 goals or more in them and both teams managed to score in each match.

Domestically Real Madrid are level with Barcelona on points but with a game in hand and they beat Valencia 2-1 at home in their last start.

Atletico Madrid overcame stern resistance from Leicester in the last 8. They eventually progressed 2-1 on aggregate and although they never looked likely to bow out once they scored their away goal they would have been disappointed not to threaten the Leicester goal more over the 2 legs. They had previously reached the last 8 with a comfortable 4-2 aggregate win over Bayer Leverkusen. Atletico have won 3 of their 5 away games in the Champions League this season and their only defeat was a 1-0 loss away to Bayern Munich in the group stages.

Atletico are out of contention domestically where they sit 3rd a full 10 points behind Barcelona and Real. They warmed up for this game with a comfortable 5-0 away win over Las Palmas on the weekend.

These sides drew their last league encounter 1-1 at Real Madrid in April.

Betting

Real 15/20

Draw 5/2

Atletico 4/1

Suggested bet: Real Madrid Cleansheet YES at 13/10

Real tend to leak a few goals at the back while scoring more at the other end but in a game of this nature I expect them to keep it tight in an effort not to concede an away goal. Atletico did not impress me against Leicester and I am looking for them to draw a blank here.

Just how does Ronaldo do it? Time and time again. Love him or hate him he must be the finest player ever.
