WARNING TO THE PUBLIC

The national gaming board is committed to upholding the law and ensuring that all South Africans are informed.

In terms of F2.1.7 of the exchange Control Rules ,it is illegal to participate in foreign lotteries, sweepstakes and BETTING ORGANISATIONS etc.etc. etc.

The gambling board supports the South African Reserve Bank in its endeavour to prosecute persons involved in illegal gambling activities.

a) The first fact is that this warning is not untruthful, but it is misleading...it refers only to exchange control rules so the only illegal aspect is if there is any breach of exchange control!
b)Why have the gambling board not bought advertising space, for this warning,in any other racing publications?
c) If gambling into foreign pools is harmful to the reserve bank and consequently our country, why am I encouraged to place bets everyday, into a facility operated by the owner of the publication, who then transfer my bets into a co-mingled pool in the UK (and into the USA in respect of selected meetings).

Is this a case of "do as I say,not as I do" as I fail to see the difference,in principle!

Sorry, perhaps I need to explain to those who use publications other than Computaform, that this warning appears weekly in Computaform.(the rest of you obviously don't need to be warned... lol)

Rob I am sure we have been down this path a few times with the Betfair posts and the fact that Phumelela and Betfair have a "partnership" :S

Dave, partnerships, have to comply with the law.The first requirement for any contract,is that the nature of the transaction/s has to be legal.
I do not ever remember Saftote's' right to transfer funds into overseas betting pools, being discussed here before and why is it allowed,if the only benificiaries are the shareholders of Saftote? Just asking!

.
Do you not think that the fact that this notice is only in Computaform is in contradiction to"............ensuring ALL South Africans are informed"

French are being really strict on online gaming atm, banning citizens from logging onto any gaming sites..I`m sure if the above was cast in stone the authorities would do something similar in SA
