What did you make of the ride on MOTHER RUSSIA ?

I'm wondering what you folks thought of that ride on Mother Russia ? I.M.O NOT the best ride from Anton. Horse lies perfectly placed 3rd all the way, scraping paint. couldn't get thru or wouldn't go thru twice on the inside, switches LATE once the race was over. The winner was along / behind Mother in 4th about 400 - 500 from home. winner has a trouble free run up the middle.............. in my opinion Anton should have got off the rail 400 from home, made his way to the middle...... then less chance of interference. would have been race over.

I think a race Anton would like to forget quickly, M.D.K. as well............................... & all those that backed the favourite.
Jocks with his wealth of experience ( 3 or 4 thousand winners ) should NOT get boxed in lying 3rd all the way round.

only my couch potato opinion..... what say you ?

I thought that when the gap was looming the winner took it, and Mother Russia was a fraction to late ,leaving the winner in a commanding position as the favourite,had to check once more and tried to close in .Good day for the cream cookies,and what great coverage for the world too see,our beautful Cape Town .Events like this has all our famous dignitaries talking about our horseflesh,and why not.

I do not think Anton rode a great race, but in my opinion he had no chance with the winner even had she had a clear passage.

the fault lies not with Markus but with the poor pace - I'd throw the form of that race in the dustbin - Cape stipes need to talk to their Jockeys and tell them that very soon they will injure someone(clipping heels etc) if they continue this negative riding approach - it is not a tactical cycle race so get on with it guys as you take your lives in your own hands when you play games and i'd hate to see someone come down because you all go for the same run(up the outside last week - remember the objection)

I backed Mother Russia so never took my eyes off her.Maybe not Anton's finest hour but I don't think it was his fault.
His chance to go down the inside obviously came too soon as he was not ready to "go" yet,but if he had known what was to come,he would have taken that option.
He didn't ...so he didn't.... and then the gaps just kept closing.
This was one of those cases where "thats racing" truly applies IMO ....(.he says looking at 5 losing doubles!!!)

I spoke to Anton after the race and he said he couldnt have beaten Past Master....great run by Mother Russia anyway.

Have to agree with Hotline. When Mother Russia did get clear she did not close the gap between herself and the winner. Therefore who says she would have past Past Master. She had a bit of stamina doubt anyway.

Marcus not to blame....could not find the gap, with Hatt and chance rider Miienie....

He then did the right thing by switching out for a clearer run, ...got blocked by Schlechter, and had to switch again.

Mienie and Hatt, screwed the race up in my view, with both trying to win, and, running unplaced, but doing enough to mess up Anton's chance of winning...not suprising that niether of the jocks ride for De Kock.

Past Master best horse on the day and well done to the connections.

Nice to see smaller yards winning the main races of the day.
