Have always thought if you have a staying 3 year old filly or colt in SA its the best races to enter, was keen for Miss D ................but will settle for a maiden plate.

Sentimental Ihle Grande
Oaks ratings little better than a weak MR race at Vaal mid week.

i agree , with the top 3 yr olds contesting the july /d/n ,gold circle should look at the future of this event, maybe having it on gold cup day.

Aside from the Derby and Oaks being reduced to relatively minor status in the current set-up, I am increasingly coming to the conclusion that the reshuffled 2010 winter schedule worked out extremely well and should be reintrouduced permanently. The Gold Cup lost nothing from being a month before the July, the Derby was won by the eventual July runner-up, and the Betting World 1900 was won by a horse that would beat this year's field by 100 metres with me, Pirates, and Scotia all on his back.
Where, actually, were the negative effects of the "new-look" 2010 KZN seasion?

So you're saying we should break with tradition and have the 'July' at the end of July? (Shock , horror :S)

Why not? It worked like a charm last year. The Cape season ends with the Met, the Joburg season finishes on Champions day, but we have the biggest race of the lot and it would bring the KZN season to a resoundng end instead of being in the middle somewhere.

i agree , having the july at the end of the season gives horses more chances of qualifying for the big race. eg a3yrold like gold onyx could hav ran in the 1900 and d/n 2000 jus like bold silvano. moderate horse like safwan would hav not qualified.

I agree with you Magic..I like change its good for industries and business..also where is a nice KZN Greyville Festival??
Maybe they could do July, the Scottsville Sprint, the othe graded races on July day etc etc in a wonderful 4 days of racing??..doesnt have to be 1st Sat in July..
