PJ MERIT RATING APPEAL

PJ lowered to 116 now. Too many successful objections lately...and rightly so.

Credit to our no 1 racing magazine, Sporting Post - Always first with breaking news!
An Appeal was lodged by Trainer Gary Alexander against the increase in the rating of PIERRE JOURDAN from MR 112 to MR 118 subsequent to the Charity Mile run at Turffontein on 5 November 2011.
An Appeal Panel consisting of Messrs G Hawkins, M Lips, and M Wanklin heard the appeal by teleconference on 14 November 2011.
The Appeal Panel found difficulty in selecting an ideal line horse and did not disagree with the use of TWO TONE but were of the opinion that TWO TONE running to his previous rating achieved of 104 in a Pinnacle Plate over 1400 metres at Turffontein on 18 October 2011, was a more realistic level for assessing this race.
On this basis of reassessing the race rating, the Panel were of the view that PIERRE JOURDAN ran to a rating of 116, ENGAGEMENT to a rating of 100 and that effectively the level of the race should be reduced by two rating points.

As I posted previously I had him at 117,and I wouldn't argue with 116.
My gut feel is that this race won't stand up though?

I find many other these things make no sense anymore, or the cases are being viewed in such isolation, that they no longer see the bigger picture (imho).
PJ runs 8 races over a period of more than a year, and runs 3x races off a 112, 2x races 110 and another 3x races off 112. This includes a 3rd, 3x 2nds (incl July) and 3 wins.
Now, beating a 5yo mare rated 98 and at 50/1, whist giving 7kg makes it the best race of his career.
To support that, Two Tone running third with a career that is comprised of 6 wins: 2x 1200m and 4x 1000m, also at 28/1
.....You don't even have to do the handicapping to think twice about a big penalty.
The ruling against De Kock's objection last week was another nonsensical decision (again imho). I'm beginning to wonder if the fact that more than half of primary school maths teachers were not able to add 3/5 + 1/4 recently is infectious?
PS the question isn't whether or not PJ is really perhaps even 120, but can you make the case here? It was a handicap, the result was a surprise because the expected competition failed and the long-shots arrived. They were right to object. (imho)

he won in an absolute canter with the jockey posing 150 metres out...he had an equipment change that was recommended by a jockey with the name of doug whyte who knows a thing or two about horses,,,,he is probably at his best over 10 furlongs and won in a hack canter in a prep run over a mile group 2...of course if he wins again the OFFICIAL HCAPERS WILL BE CRAPPED ON for not penalising him enuf and if he gets beat then he was given to much weight...
