Imagine Racing RE the ups and downs of race horse ownership
13 years 4 months ago
Dear Dave
I got your email address from Sandy, since it seems to be such a small world! I also met you briefly at the Equus Awards last year.
I was having a look at some of the discussions on ABC and noticed the thread about the ups and downs of being an owner and it rings so many bells for us. These are exactly some of the questions our business is trying to answer by encouraging shared ownership, setting fees and explaining the whole process in detail while “holding” the new owners hands all the way and providing constant communication and progress information on the horse.
It is hard to believe that in a sport that is driven by passion that there is not more mainstream marketing of the thrill of it, particularly since if one is not familiar with something it is very hard to like it let alone be passionate about it.
Anyway, it is something that we are working hard on and hopefully as we get more people involved so we will grow the idea!
I know that Sandy gave Lee a pamphlet but, in a nutshell, our costs are broken down as below and the aim is to be able to set a monthly fee that is all inclusive since we feel that is where people are often misled. It is one thing to purchase or lease the horse and then suddenly to find out that there are registrations, colours, RA or Gold Circle fees as well as monthly vet and noms.
I know that you are as passionate as we are and we look forward to seeing you at the races very soon.
Best regards
Catherine
COSTS
Our charging structure is simple:
1. You pay a single fee up-front, on joining, to cover the purchase price of the horse.
The cost varies depending on the price of the horse but it includes the following: purchase price, vetting at the sales, insurance against fatality and transport.
2. You pay a set monthly fee for all the training and running costs of the horse.
This fee includes all training, registrations, veterinary costs, transport, race entries, jockey fees, and all administrative costs.
You also receive two owners' badges per share-owner.
This ensures that you know exactly what your monthly outlay will be and there will be no surprises. All we ask in return is that you commit to a minimum of one year in training with the option to review at the end of each
year.
The decision on whether to keep the horse in training for a further year will be made in consultation with all the owners.
Payment may be made via monthly debit order or upfront, if preferred.
For detailed costs on each horse, please contact us directly.
