if memory serves me right Anton's last few visits to the big hole with C.Laird stable were disastrous...... i know Gavin doesn't ride there much either.

Anton has some really good rides this week & Gold Cup day, he'll get up on the line.

With everyone in Durban on Gold Cup day Gav will have a very good card in Capetown as well...going to be an interesting 10 days

Anton has superb rides in PE on Friday and Gavin really has a poor card in Cape Town on Saturday. He is very strong in Zim on Sunday with 7 excellent rides. One feels he needs to have a big day at Borrowdale to win this.

I thought that although Anton pulled one back today that it could have been worse for Gavin, and he probably has the upper hand on Tuesday, and now the betting is 6/10 Anton and 1/1 Gavin :S

Bookies too clever for me!

Go Gavin!

It would be very interesting to see what the average SP is for the winners ridden by the respective jockeys. This is my perception... Anton's rides would be on average somewhere between evens and 2/1. Gavin's probably closer to 4/1 to 9/2 !!

Antons last 50 rides 1 has started in double digits,30 have started 3/1 or shorter and he has been beaten on 18 favorites Gavs last 50 rides 6 have started in double digits 10 have started 3/1 or shorter and he has been beaten on 8 favorites.. I am not detracting from the brilliance of Marcus there is no doubt that he is world class but this is hardly a level playing field and given the stats Gav has done superbly well to still be in front

agreed not the strongest card on Saturday but In Full Flo and Half way to heaven must have chances but his card on the 31st in Cape town will be more than decent

Titch, barring 10 days of travel Anton has hardly made any effort to win this. I am rooting for Gavin, but in all honesty ability wise he is not in the top 5 in the country. I would have him behind Marcus, Delpech, Strydom, Marwing and Fourie. His supporters will say he missed a good portion of the season with his leg injury and his detractors will say he was gifted 35 winners thus far in Zim.

My head says Anton will win by 3 or more although as stated above I would like to see Gavin win.

Thank you Titch... that sort of sums it up for me. Anton is a very good jockey, history will show so is Gavin. Anton gets the rides because he is acknowledged as such... gavin is working to prove the same. In future there will be a young jockey riding three rides to Gavin's one for the same reason as Gavin is doing now. There are a lot of riders plying their trade but only a handful who have the skill and/or desire to be the best.... or the champ... and the number of rides does not detract from from the skill or the desire... ore likely it reflects the recognition.
Go Anton... Go Gavin... Go the future pretender to the crown.... is all good :)
