Value of time splits
12 years 11 months ago
There has been many a moan and chirp around the issue of timing splts in racing not being available. I would like to know what value can be put on this (I mean monetary here) as an incentive for someone to implement. Would you subscribe to a newsletter service, a 'membershp only' website which has the splits for every race, a racing publication (like Sporting Post, Winning form) for this benefit?

For me times play a huge part in my studying. I still don't know why we can't have 1/4 mile (400 meters) splits like several countries around the world.

Does it really make a difference on turf shrek? Surely the time splits of a good front runner will look very different to those of a good chaser?

Yes it would LD but we could see at what pace a race was run.

Look at that explanation of utilising split times on the Sporting Post site.........in 40 years of racing I found that a very enlightening subject and it's use would be invaluable. I think too many people would be oblivious ,however, so I doubt you could make implementation economic in the short term......just my opinion.

Rob, do you have a link for me? I can't find it and I'd like to read it. I know the Americans put a lot of emphasis on early speed, but that's because most of their races are run on dirt. Whereas I know a lot of turf form pundits like the last 400m times. It's an interesting topic.

So if I offered the service at specific racetracks would I get enough subscribers to the information to make it feasible. Obviously we would start in the Western Cape.
The more subscribers the cheaper the subscription
... and this is still in the beta phase so would be at least 3 to 4 months to fruition... and of course some dialgoue with stakeholders such as GC and Phum.

I think if you were going to do this you would have to take your own pen readings aswell Magi, cant rely on other parties..

Magi,I think that if you could train enough people in how to use it then you might, but if you rely on enough people to subscribe having worked it out for themselves,I think you would never recoup.
Look how long it has taken to get so many punters to understand and recognise the nuances of handicapping(some still don't get WFA)
(BTW I ducked as you took that swing.....lol)
