RC we will disagree on this. You way off the mark. I tried to get 6 boxes in Jhb when Thandolwami was going for those Group races. I was told no boxes so raid! Only Gavin V Z got as he got in 1st and I think just the boxes past the post at Turffontein. That is not welcoming outside trainers with open arms. Kom had to swop with Alec Laird to get boxes. I just heard but have not confirmed that only 60 boxes being made available in Cape for the season. If true then GC Natal looks after their visitors a lot better than anywhere else in making available enough boxes for them to bring their horses for the season. They also keep boxes for the raiders available. We also have at least 2 permanently Natal based trainers on farms here waiting to get into Summerveld and they can only get in once the visitors have left.

@titch:
'My take on the subject is that there is a certain amount of sour grapes here....whilst I agree that HA has invested heavily in the industry and wants a return on his investment hence the move one should bear in mind that he has a past record of taking extreme steps if things dont always go his way..'
Yes, just what is HA on?
1.
Gripes against an elitist group who have a virtual strangle-hold on the entire industry
or...
2.
wanting to infuse the industry with his own passion for horseracing?
In which case, what has he done to promote it amongst the ordinary punters (black and white), or, even as for transformation?
Herein...
1.
Why unlike Mrs Plattner, has he not appointed a black assistant trainer as his own private trainer with 20-30 horses?
For that matter, why did he not give even ONE horse to former first African trainer Bekhinkosi Bulana like what Mrs Mary Slack did?
or, even send some to Reeza van Reenen, K Naidoo or Y Singh?
Or, even meet with Phindi Kema and her group that wants to penetrate the industry and change it (however)?
2.
If he is so vociferous about the state of the industry and its unaccountability, why did he not mutter a single word when Ian Jayes took so much of flack for raising the Grooms' Fund issue?
Finally, he was approached by both myself and C Simoto (SA Grooms Association) regarding meaningful transformation of the industry.
Mr Simoto even asked Mr Adams to intervene and assist him with getting a trainer's licence.
Both of us are waiting for even a mere acknowledgement! That says a lot .... passion for the industry, eh?
My take is simple:
If Mr Adams were white and he made such rash statements, he would have been either neautralised or demonised, like Mr Jayes.
Using one's 'blackness' to promote one's own selective agenda is definitely questionable, if not innately racist!
During the 'apartheid' days we viewed antics by some as 'running with the hare and chasing with the hounds'; any better now?

why would any kzn trainer besides d drier want to raid cape town in the cape season when they cant even be competitive in there own kzn season and allow 8 different cape trainers to win grade 1 races in natal.the kzn trainers must be the weakest of the big 3 centres and yes i know mdk and c laird are now kzn trainers.they each won 1 gr1 race in the past kzn season.those are the facts and its time that kzn trainers realise they are just too weak at the moment and they need to up there game if they want to compete with the cape yards.im not having a go at anybody here just think its time some of the kzn trainers face the facts and realise how bad they really are in terms of gr1 races this past season.

@ Craig, just another side to the story -
1) The simple fact of the matter remains that Gauteng stables are FULL. A privately based Gauteng Trainer has been waiting for more than 2 years for just 20 Stables at any Gauteng Training centre.... And is still waiting.... because there are NO EMPTY stable yards in Gauteng.
2) Chesney is IN the visiting boxes at Turffontein...
3) At Vaal, between us Trainers who welcome competition, we would have gladly helped you with 8 boxes..... Like we have always helped, for instance, Duncan Mac Kenzie, in the past. (like a certain Trainer at Clairwood helped a Vaal based Trainer, until he was forbidden to do that....)
4) What the forumites are simply saying is that we, in Gauteng, are confidant enough to "welcome competition from all and sundry" to race up here. In other words, we DO NOT oppose anyone receiving boxes or a satellite yard up here, should they obtain some.....and we dont shit ourselves either....
5)And that, quite frankly is why you can go on, ad nauseum, about the "long list"of applications for satellite yards in KZN - there, you are 100% correct, in terms of terminology - the applications are for SATELLITE yards and NOT for RELOCATION purposes. This is because Gauteng Trainers yards are FULL, because they have the support, due to having 147 meetings per year and much higher stakes per race, per meeting and per Annum.
6)But, in spite of the above, which I felt compelled to point out, due to your being the only Trainer posting from one side only, I remain firmly in Pirates camp in that I believe that we should all be rowing the same boat and that Provincialism is the worst thing that we can do to Racing right now.
7)One thing that confuses me, though, is your reference to people who have stuck with you in the bad times, now being rewarded in the good times. What "GOOD TIMES"are you referring to? Are your turnovers up? Or are you referring to the proceeds of the sale of Clairwood? Please tell us more.
The good news for Gauteng is that there is a possibility of a Stakes increase of about 8% in January.... Maybe, due to vastly increased turnover, you are about to announce another increase too?

Ps - my last post was written from Milnerton, where I am down prepping Jolly Poppins for next week's Champagne Stakes. I have been flying in and out, during this prep. I am amazed at the friendly reception from all down here, the level of assistance and have encountered no negative vibes.
May the Mother City and all her Racing people be BLESSED !

Hi Louis about to leave for races so do not have much time but to say if the Natal guys waiting to get in were in there would be very few boxes left for outsiders. Many trainers here still have horses on farms as they battling to find space right now. Gavin or Chesney is the only visiting trainer with boxes. I was never offered boxes at the Vaal. The satalite boxes are taking up boxes that could be utilised by Natal trainers. The boxes to the bigger trainers are already being restricted . We could have put up the stakes already but due to the fact that the split is not formaly done we have been told that it is not posssible and even if GC put up the Cape stakes as well. The stakes increase that was proposed has nothing to do with the sale of Clairwood. I see Winzip knows every horse raced or unraced in Natal in that he says only Dennis should go to the Cape. Interesting.

Re: Re: hassan adams

maybe i am crazy but why do most trainers want to train out of a training centre example Summerveld?for all the good training tracks or the comfort it gives ? or are most trainers just spoiled brats with the 46 different tracks at the centre to train on,and when a horse doesnt perform ,you tell the owner its the track that he didnt like so you going to train him now on a heavier track and the owner can expect results in 3 months?
please explain ,i am confused .....?
If trainers have toooooo many horses why not set up your own private training centre, their must be a lot of studfarms ,for example ,available and the big spending owners with a lot of horses in your yard can do it as investment?
training centres with so many trainers and horses are always full of viruses etc and you also timebound to when its your turn to train or have a track available etc...
own training facility can let you have as many horses as you want and you dont have to rush through your training sessions but have the time to spend with your horses.how many of the "big yard trainers" do spend quality time with each of their horses or have a personal relationship with each horse in the stable?????That is why CHESNEY VAN ZYL is THE MOST SUCCESSFULL TRAINER IN SOUTH AFRICA at the moment,he knows every horse inside and out that he train....(No other trainer have the success-rate that he does, especially in big races....and you can check the stats, most "big"trainers must be embarrassed )
i know i dont know much but .... "we had horses with 5 different trainers at randjies, turfontein, vaal and kimberley and only one was successfull with our horses...and he was the only trainer with a small private centre, and the only trainer that knew every horse in his stable's likes/dislikes."....when he retired from training we trained our own 4 horses on our farm on our "geploegde rooigrond ou land",400km,north of the jhb and raided from their to win 6 races in a years time at turfontein, gosforthpark and vaal ,under a useless trainers name....
(my dad had a set plan for every day and each horse was trained as if it was entered in the july)
i maybe wrong but most trainers in search of extra boxes must rather make a success with what horses they have in the stable and stop training "useless no-hopers" just for the monthly training fee income
OK....now give me your piece of mind....straight talk never ruins a friendship
