The disturbing aspect about this is:

there are two groups of workers from separate unions, with one regarding the other as 'mlungus' and 'sell-outs'!

Should this line of thinking get to grass roots (community) level), we are heading for anarchy!

Such a situation also reflects upon the ANC where there is so much widespread disappointment/dissatisfaction.

Really regrettable that our so much of our vaunted 'democracy' slides into such gross violence and morass!

Similar to other democracies, there are two parties. However, our format and ideologies differ in that both remain race based (as much as anyone attempting to deny such an analysis): the majority blacks and the minority whites who are still deemed to control the economy. We do not have a relevant 'middle' party as sentiments on the ground rule out such associations due to mistrust and lack of knowing one another.

With this scenario, we see black on black violence (the police belong to the black Government).

Is it going to metamorphise into black on white (and others) in the future?

If ever our country needed leadership, it is now; not tenders and jets!

There must have been at least 20 ways of settling this dispute without it coming to this. Both tactically on the ground and by negotiating.

My sympathies go to the protestors. The poor men that break their backs in the mines for the elite and politically connected.
They were slaughtered, these fathers and brothers, without blinking an eye... this is the nature of the beast that is the current Zuma government and its armed forces. Be aware.

When there are civil uprisings you use minimal force. It is more than likely that elemnts have taken control of these peoples minds and most of them, including their families and dependents, would have preferred them to be alive the next day.
In this case they could have use water cannons and shotguns and maybe even rubber bullets. Tear gas would also have done the trick. Stun guns, ??? hell anything except automatic rifles.

Why did no one think of snipering the fellas that had guns in the crowd? Especially those that retrieved the weapons from fallen police officers? There should have been intelligence on the crowd. The 'trouble' crowd and those just 'angry'.

Why was barb wire not used to control movement of crowd?

These self same 'heroic' SWAT teams with their berets in battle ... killed that elderly crackpot German couple. Sure they never posed any life threatening threat ... but the little boys in their berets must play 'look daddy I got a gun' war games. They are ZUMAS ASSASINS.

However the police are well with in their rights... video's available show police picking up and removing firearms from where the strikers were on the ground.
if you were in that situation and the group of protesters were advancing on you (after hacking 2 of your collegues to death) what would you do?

What the media fail to report on is that the two police officers killed this week were hacked to death with pangas and axes and that a 3rd officer is still fighting for his life in hospital.So investigate that first before they start with their blame games.

The police fired teargas and then used a water cannon to disperse the strikers, who then retaliated by firing live ammunition at the police.So the miners started shooting live bullets at police.That's why the police fired back.
