Titch. Go FFS someone else buddy. Got it!
I don't know what video you watching... The one that was posted in this thread???? Post your blimming video.

There was no need to fire live rounds to kill. At minimum shoot for the legs. It is not acceptable.

Then the wives go sing the national anthem. Errrrrr????

The whole situation is a cock up. Typically third world.
Typically South African in the cheap spending of lives all round.
Perhaps I should not get my bowels in a knot?

Between the South African homicide rate, aids, rapes, robberies, political intolerance, violence on regions based on
Political support, a jackass president, militarized cops used for political ends and and and I should just brush it off my calloused mind.

In our conscript military training we were taught that take out the trouble maker and the rest will fall in line. Tactically there would be snipers positioned to take out the instigators. (Not that we ever were in a position to test this. I was the second to last intake of conscripts). I watched E News and they showed 3 dfferent points of views from 3 different cameras. Reuters E TV and I Witness News. It's clearly an over reaction by SAPS and shows a lack of traning. The one oke continued to fire as he was retreating almost shootng the only wit cop in the camera shot. Bottom line is lack of training. The old regime and the security forces were alot of things, well trained was one of them.

The good news is that JuJu will be addressing the miners tomorrow!

@Alcaponee... my sentiment exactly ... they k$k troops.. you can see that .. shooting from behind the leading line, running backwards like little pansies when the bullets (their own) start flying, overwhelming numbers against the idiots charging them with pangas and knobkerries. And then they strut around the dead bodies with their berets and sunglasses on... like Idi Amin's little foot soldiers, real African tripe. Bird brains.....BIG BRAVE men ...NOT!
@hotline .. I live and was born in this k$khole. Well the country is beautiful, the prats that live here make it so k$k

As iemand 'n vuurwapen het en jy voel bedreig, gaan jy hom beslis nie in die been skiet nie.

They got what they deserved. How many policeman get killed each year?

The only way to really test this is run it through the Europe test. Would the police in lets say England have gone to this extreme? London and Greek riots were a fair example. I cant recall a batallon of armed officers firing on a mob like this. What this does smack of is a Lybian, Syrian etc scenario.

Like it or not there will be more of this and unless the ANC gov starts delivering on promises of 18 years ago, it could be happening on our streets soon. Unfortunately for some, this is our reality so get ready for some radical change. We need strong, intelligent leaders not yes men and populists.

Al in England or Greece they weren't up against Pangas and firearms and none of the police had been hacked to death...apples with apples.. anywhere in the world the use of deadly force by the police when their lives are in danger is well documented any one who claims that the lives of these policeman were not in danger is unconscious, its easy to call them "bang gats" from the comfort of our homes try put yourself in their position....
Give everything but up!

Al

but in London the protestors were not:
1: carrying dangerous weapons (in the majority)
2: murdered a couple of policemen
3: carrying illegal weapons

In greece it was different they were not
1: carrying dangerous weapons (in the majority)
2: murdered a couple of policemen
3: carrying illegal weapons
AND
4: they stopped for LUNCH during the protest (this is one of the funniest things i have ever seen)

Guys, I dont think that many realise what it is like standing in front of 1000's of chanting, aggresive and armed rioters/strikers. If I feel my life or the lives of my fellow police officers was in any danger would I also shoot? Without a doubt YES. I am not going to become a dead policeman for anyone because I was trying to be nice to people who had already killed 2 of my mates. Not on your life.

i cant believe i am agreeing with titch

People on here are having a go at the cops for "breaking formation and firing at will" I can't even imagine how intense that situation was. They were attacked, it takes a special kinda guy to just sit back and take aim at legs (suggested by some genius on here)

This was a volatile situation, they came with pangas they got shot.

My mate roger though sums it up perfectly:

" in 500 years its amazing that some people have still not learned that you dont take a stick to a gun fight"

Had the police fired in front of them instead of at them would they not have got the same result? If the police had fired bean bags or rubber bullets at them would they not have yielded the same result. In the video footage and the audio that went with it there were two small arm shots (9mm or something similar). This triggered pandamonium. SAPS were not prepared or trained to deal with this scenario. They put their R5's on Afrikaans (automatic) and Rambo'ed the lot. This is not TV they dead guys did not get up dust themselves off and go home afterwards.

This whole thing started from a radio show in the morning SAFM with Xolani Gwala. He had the leader of NUM, AMCU and the Lonmin mine manager on the show and there was huge debate each accusing the other and none showing leadership. Xolani insisted that they go and talk to the strikers. The rest is history. If you had heard how pathetic these so called leaders were arguing like children on a playground, it is easy to understand why things ended up as they did.

Fact is, the trade Unions have too much power and the insetuous relationship with politics is fuelling the fire. As a result there is a blurring of powers and decreasing levels of control.
